General Board / Re: What happens if I quit my 1L job
« on: June 09, 2007, 08:59:04 PM »
I think that if you quit, you'll regret it. Try to stick it out and just remember that it's only 2 months.

I'm not in law school yet, but for some reason I don't expect to have a "fun" summer once I get there. In your position, I'd be psyched to make money as a 1 L.

Pittsburgh / Re: Class of 2010

Hey Matt. My name's Nicole, and I'm coming to Pitt from The College of New Jersey. I just got a small 1-br in Shadyside for a decent price, and I'm pretty psyched about living there. I was surprised by how much I liked the city, and the great sports teams don't hurt either. All of us Pitt LSDers should hang out before class starts.

Pittsburgh / Re: Grading at Pitt
« on: May 03, 2007, 05:16:53 PM »
Can you explain how to read that chart to me.

OK, what the chart means is that out of 250 people in the class, 35 people received an A- average, 90 people received a B+ average, 50 people received a B average, 50 people received a B- average, 15 people received a C+ average, and five people received a C average, after first year.  So its a ~3.1 curve.  Another way to understand the curve is that out of 250 people, about 40 people get A's, 40 people get C's, and the rest get B's.  Its kind of sad that I just had to explain that to you

No, it's really not. A lot of people in college don't have grading curves, myself included, and it's a bit confusing if you've never dealt with it before.

Pittsburgh / Housing
« on: April 14, 2007, 01:22:46 PM »
Hey everyone :-)

I'm an incoming 1L, and I'll be starting to look for apartments in May. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions about where to live. I've heard that most students live in Shadyside or North Oakland. Are there any apartment complexes any of you would recommend? Where is rent the cheapest?

I think they are symbols of love, for the most part, but some girls are ridiculous with their expectations. A friend of mine said that unless her boyfriend gives her a certifiable rock, he's out of the picture... *rolls eyes*.

I have a gripe w/St.John's simply because I applied in December and still haven't gotten word on whether I've been accepted or rejected. I don't care at this point, as I've chosen my school, but 6 months with no correspondence? Come on.

Villanova makes me sad because they sent me an acceptance letter the day after I signed a lease for my apartment in Pittsburgh. While I like Pitt much better, that was bittersweet and pretty annoying.

Albany just completely sucks. I applied with both my LSAT and GPA waaayyyy over their 75% (thinking I may get a free ride, or close to that), and they didn't send me an acceptance until late April. No mention of merit aid whatsoever. They did, however, send me a pack of highlighters and a keychain. WTF?!?! I'm not in 2nd grade....give me cash!

On the flip side, I loved Pitt (obviously), Rutgers-N, and Richmond. Everyone in their offices and/or at their ASDs was incredibly friendly and receptive to questions.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: St. John's

Nothing-- applied in December!!

I applied in December and I still haven't heard a thing. I've already made my decision to go to Pitt, but this is really annoying. Is anyone else still waiting on them.

The Fits are so cute. I just bought a Jetta, and I definitely wish I got something a little cooler. And yeah, I agree on going with a crazy color. If you like orange, go for it...it's only a matter of time before you'll be a professional and feel the need to go with something boring, aka. navy or gray.

Hey-- I got an apartment in Shadyside through Mozart Management. It's called the Highmont, and it's on 5th ave about 1.5 miles from the school. I was told to get an apt. through them or Franklin West. I looked in N.Oakland and couldn't find anything I liked. If you want more details about the search/prices, feel free to PM me.

Oh, and it's definitely a good idea to organize something for the c/o '10 to hang out before school starts. I'm not from the area, and I'm living by myself, so meeting people before the stress sets in would be awesome.
