Not to get totally off-topic, but re Duke lax:

I do know that the story hasn't added up, and that it didn't go down the way everyone worst-case-scenario'd it. That said, I think the whole thing (including the way it was handled by the prosecutor, and regardless of what actually happened) shows that Durham has some pretty serious race/gender issues either way. That's all I meant; sorry for any confusion, as it's finals weeks and sleep is at a premium.

I had my prelaw counselor look over my first draft, which did have a place for "law school x" in it, and she said I should take it out. Unspoken assumption: slightly cheesy, but moreso unnecessary. Likewise, I applied to Duke without changing it. It's actually not even statement-of-purposey, except towards the end. However, it is about fighting bias (misogyny, racism), and perhaps the recent lacrosse stuff makes it clear why I would want to go to Duke--lots of bias to fight there!

Re the areas of interest: TStock asked me about this too, but on the flip side, as I think I checked off three to five of them (Criminal, Constitutional, Public Interest, Litigation, possibly entertainment law). I said something along the lines of that these areas were areas that I've been exposed to, through reading or internships or coursework, and think that I may be interested in pursuing through to a career--and that the fact that I do have so many legal areas of interest was a big reason I wanted to go to law school in the first place. I don't really think it was a big deal that I checked off so many--but with apps like this in the first place, especially without interviews, I feel like the more sense that you can convey of yourself (from academic interests to personality), the better. So now TStock knows that these are my areas of interest, and he has a different picture of me than if I had checked off just public interest, or just tax law, or none at all.

I guess it is a bit early for her to hear anything. LSD creates completely different mental furniture re law school admissions: 175+ only is acceptable for top 5, soft factors are king, anything under 3.8 is poop, etc etc. Sort of like my UG--everyone I know scored btw 169 and 176. Insane.

I applied late; 11/27 I believe, and then report requested on the 29th I think. Hope this helps.

176/3.71 from an Ivy. Still haven't gotten my complete email! The weird thing is that I know two other people with roughly similar stats (3.79/169 and 3.7/175) who haven't heard a peep from T-Stock. Imagine the awkwardness upon calling the latter friend to compare notes, only to find out that she hasn't heard from HLS. I will save you the trouble: moderate to medium awkwardness levels.

Got my call today, 3:11. I think it went well--although I did say something fairly inane about eBay. But...he laughed? So? Good stuff?

My voice was all shaky in the beginning. I am such a twerp.

Hi Toby! Call me! (tm Harold Ford ad)

I just got the interview email, at 5:54. I was surprised it came this early, as I applied fairly late in the season (i.e. applied 11/27 to HLS, 12/1 to Boalt). Haven't gone complete; numbers are 3.71/176. I am very, very, very excited. HLS is my top choice, even though their football team BIT IT at the H-Y game. Ha.

And, for what it's worth, I remember Toby looking quite a bit like Eric Mabius, currently starring on "Ugly Betty."

What's that I smell? Egg? On lots of people's faces? Heh.

Do you mean to say that law schools don't receive your actual score? Because that's not true. They definitely receive your actual exact score.
