Incoming 1Ls / Summer Reading List
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:21:58 PM »
I know there are a bunch of threads about books to read over the summer before 1L, but I can't find most of them without the Search button :(.  Does anyone have the links for these threads?  Or a few suggestions for some books to pick up?  I'm looking for something that isn't all too controversial (so maybe not PLS), but also isn't just descriptive and will actually help me prepare for law school (so maybe not One L).  Thanks!

To be honest, I think Queen's grading scale is an advantage, not a disadvantage.  Landing an 80 and getting an automatic 4.0 is pretty sweet.  The difference between an 80 and an 85 in most classes is quite significant: you don't have to worry about this at Queen's.  There was a thread either here or on a while ago that compared the college mean GPA on the LSDAS reports and if I remember correctly Queen's average was significantly higher than other Canadian schools like Toronto, McGill and UBC.

Cool, thanks: I'm definitely going to have to be vigilant about actually checking out apartments, classrooms, libraries, etc.  I'm totally one of those people who just walk into a room, take a quick glance around and walk out without paying attention to much of anything.  And then when people ask me how it was I just tell them it was great even if it was absolute crap because I honestly can't remember :D

Anyone else have any tips?  Surely there has to be a secret passage or something I gotta look out for in the library.

Canadian Law Students / Re: Why should I go to an American school?

Just want to point out that it is not always more expensive to go to the States: schools in the U.S. tend to be much more generous with their merit based aid.

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Visiting Columbia and NYU

Just booked my ticket to NYC: will be visiting both Columbia and NYU (if they extend my scholarship deadline).  Will be my first time in New York and I will be there for less than a week: what do I need to see at the schools and what do I need to see elsewhere?

only if it's bad closure! good closure, totally different story :)

I don't see how getting rejected is going to be good in any way :(.
