« on: May 08, 2006, 04:26:23 PM »
i'm complete, who knows when i'll go decision. I'm #3/156 at a school that's only been accredited for a year...not holding my breath for an acceptance, but couldn't hurt to try...

Thanks for the advice yall.

My gpa was a staggering 2.66 haha. My school doesn't use the curve to grade, go figure why it makes a difference. But, either way I still beat the other 152 chumps in my class.

T14 huh? Maybe what I just did really hasn't sunk in that really within grasp? B/c if so I'm definitely going to start going to church more.

I recently found out I was #3 out of 155 in my first year class, which is the top 2%. I go to John Marshall in Atlanta, which has only been ABA provisionally accredited for a year.

I wanted to get on this board and see if anyone had some advice on if I will be able to transfer, and if so, what tier or quality school would consider me. #3 is good, but after all, this school isn't exactly Harvard.I know transfering is highly competitive. I want to try to get into Georgia State, but I know their retention rate is high.

If anyone has info/ideas about schools and their retention rates, etc, it's much appreciated.

I'm about to graduate from GSU...

if you want to try the dorms, there is one building (of the 4) that houses mostly seniors and grad's called Ithaca, I think. Space is very limited though and it will most likely involve putting yourself on a waiting list to get a room this late in the spring.

From living in the dorms my freshman year, I would not advise it. Ir's very dangerous, right in the middle of a bad neighborhood. It is right across the street from Ga Tech though. However, there were 2 rapes the year I lived there, and a kid got shot walking not even a quarter mile from the buildings...just food for thought.

The apartment availability in Atlanta is really good, there are lots of places to live. If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg, I would say try to move away from downtown as possible, closer to the outer perimeter of the city. Anywhere that's 10-15 minutes from GSU, you could find a good price.

good luck! and congrats cuz those assholes rejected me.

Choosing the Right Law School / LSU, this is seriously funny...

ok so I've been ding donged at 5 schools, still waiting on 4 more (LSU, Mercer, Michigan St., Albany)

Mind you i sent off my applications in the middle of January. LSU requests my report back then too. haven't heard a thing from them, I was starting to wonder if they knew I existed still. Yesterday, out of the blue, I get an email from LSU admissions office that says "file complete". The email read something like "your file is now complete...blah blah, expect to hear from us between April and June"....?!!?

Are they just behind on their *&^%? I mean whats goin on, i applied two months ago, and ya'll are just now saying I'm complete? It's funny b/c I have no shot there whatsoever, with a 150 and a 3.13. So I basically took the email as a rejection.

Anyone like my chances at Albany?

I could get on a soap box for DAYS about Georgia State, but I'll spare you...

Do me a favor, before you make your final decision to go there, let me know and I'll tell you about my hell and back stories with the beauracracy at Georgia State. I'm not talking "oh they lost my transcript" stories. I mean like filiing federal lawsuits against the President and Dean stories...

But like I said, the law school is and always has been it's own separate enitity, so my bitter remarks probably won't apply to your experience. But, you'll still go through hell with parking and Atlanta traffic! Godspeed...

i meant UNDERestimated in that last post, i'm hungover from st. patty's...

yeah there's no connection whatsoever to the other John Marshall...

Apparently the dean came from Roger Williams law school and got them accredited really he's at JM, been around only since 2001, and they've already got provisional.

i was doin my homework on the school and I came across an article in which this lawyer said being from John Marshall was the best thing that could have happened to him early on in his career. Why? B/c he said his opponents in court and when doing depositions and such highly overestimated him, knowing where he went to law school. I guess it's true sometimes it's not where you go,m but how hard you work when you get there and what you make yourself get out of it. Plus I did read that the Georgia Court of Appeals judge is an alumnus of JM, probably their onl prominent grad.

Maybe I'll be the next one, ha...
