Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Re: Temple Visit
« on: December 12, 2007, 03:59:47 PM »
I go to Temple, and it's really not so bad.  Not many people live near school, I can only think of about two people I know who do.  It definitely has a commuter vibe.  A fair number of people live in the suburbs, the majority of people live in Center City.  I live close to the Broad Street Line and my commute is about 10-15 minutes, depending on how long it takes for a train to come, which is completely tolerable.  Also, I (and most of my friends) spend very little time on campus outside of class, which can be a drawback because you don't see other students as much, but can also be an upside because you don't see other students as much.  It all depends on how you look at it.

One thing I kind of like about Temple is that it knows its location and doesn't try to hide or downplay it.  They pretty much expect that if you're there, you know you need to be a little street-smart, and tell you this right away.  I don't feel sketched out on campus, but I don't recommend wandering around the neighborhood -- and there's no real reason to do that, anyway.  Food trucks are never more than 10 feet away, and the ones ringing Klein Hall are the best ones on campus  ;)

Honestly, if you really don't want to be in a gritty, urban location, it's probably a bad choice of schools.  If you think you could handle it, you probably can.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Temple v.s. Penn for criminal law?

these are all great responses that have unfortunately left me more confused than when i started this thread haha...this debate may all become moot when i don't get into penn which i guess wouldn't be such a bad thing since it will make my decision that much easier...thx

I felt exactly the same way this past cycle...I hope you have better luck with Penn than I did!

(Although I'm happy enough to be going to Temple, there just isn't really a comparison between the two.)

I've read that people also burn rescue disks from the partition, which could then be used in case something bad happens.  Unfortunately I don't know how to do it, but the people on have discussed it several times.

I know, I'm just trying to be pessimistic so if it ships around the estimated date, I won't be too disappointed and if it comes sooner, it'll be a lovely surprise  :)

I'm so jealous!!!  I ordered on 7/3 and my ship date has been consistently stuck at 8/3 ever since.  It's a completely different model, so I'm not too surprised that it might take longer, but I'm already getting impatient!

My boyfriend has a Fujitsu that's a couple years old, and the fan runs constantly and is LOUD!  As in, we have to turn up the music or TV when it's on because we can't hear them over the fan.  It might be better on newer models, but do some web searches to find out whether this is still an issue.

If you really like the Thinkpad, there are resellers you can buy from rather than buying from Lenovo.  You can't customize it, but could probably have it within a couple of days.

As long as your school doesn't expressly prohibit it, you should be fine.  If the school does have restrictions, you might be able to get an exception from your dean.  The thing to keep in mind, though, is that when you submit your financial aid stuff for next year, your tax returns will show the income from this job, so if your school is really strict about it, this might raise a red flag for them.

I almost forgot to submit my formal resignation because everyone has known for months when I'd be leaving, and my replacement started last week so I can train her.  On Friday, I thought about the fact that I have only two weeks left...then I realized I never handed in a letter to I wrote it and the HR Manager laughed at me when I gave it to her because she was wondering if I was going to remember it or not.  Sigh.

It felt good, but also really frightening.

At my school, it goes toward any fees and if the fees total less than the deposit, you get the remainder back (I think at the same time they disburse loan funds, but I have to double check on that).  Just call and ask, I'm sure they'll give you whatever info you need.

Waningdelusion, I think that if you change your mind about the warranty, you have up to 90 days to add an extended one.  I remember some people on the Thinkpad Forum mentioning that they added the warranty later.
