One thing not mentioned was flattery.  It goes a long way.  When I contacted my old prof., I laid it on about how infuential her class was to me, blah, blah.  If they feel flattered, they'll write a better LOR, IMO. Also, my recommender wanted to see my PS and resume to get to know me better.

OT - I love your avatar.  Everytime I look at it, I laugh.

I just got a letter from my school that says,

"Throughout the coming months you will be receiving a variety of mailings to assist you in preparing for the start of school on August 16th.  In the meantime, I suggest that you spend this time doing the things you love with the people you love - you'll have less time for this once your studies begin."

I'm taking this advice.

For you experts, any ideas ...

(sorry, couldn't help myself)

The book entitled: Acing Your First Year of Law School: The Ten Steps to Success You Won't Learn in Class
by Shana Connell Noyes, Henry S. Noyes - is that the same book as "How to Ace Your First Year in Law School?"

I definitely would not buy a computer without a warranty. I don't care how great it is.  I'm going on three years with my Dell Inspiron 8100 with no problems, but it's a little heavy to lug around.  I'm probably getting the Dell 600m.  It is very light and thin.  Monitor size is only 14" though.  You can get one with 512mb ram and 40GB hard drive for about $1100.

Hey Ryan,

I met with a Hofstra grad attorney today -- Elder Law (I'm taking care of some things for my parents).  Anyway, she was so much more on the ball than the NYU grad attorney my parents were using.  She found all kinds of mistakes in the documents he drew up that now have to be fixed.  So much for a Tier 1 education.

He was great - a true original.  There will never be another like him.

I would like to gain a year or two of experience at a small/medium firm, then go solo.  Ideally, I'd like to find a few lawyers who want to form an "of counsel" arrangement where I can maintain my own practice but share office space and staff.

Yipes!!  We're in BIG trouble.  Seriously, I don't think it's a good idea to look at these things at this point.
