I ordered a T61 on 5/22 (with discrete graphics) and it hasn't shipped yet.  I don't need it till end of august and I think it was a good value so I'm just waiting.

Yea, the discrete graphics are what add the build time on the Dell.

I looked at a D630 just now and Dell's preliminary ship date is 7/7 if ordered today, so I'm not sure thats any better than waiting on a T61 if you've already ordered it.

I ordered my T61 on 5/29...buggy status checker originally said I'd get it by 8/31 but I was told via email it shipped on 6/6.

Damn I ordered 5/22 .. must depend on what parts you get.

I disagree. There's a difference between loving a place and thinking that anywhere besides the place you live is horrible. I love Texas and I love Austin, but I don't feel sorry for someone if they're not from there. I have a friend who's facebook profile says: "The true New Yorker secretly believes that someone living anywhere else has to be, in some sense, kidding." -John Updike. That's the kind of attitude that I'm talking about.

Well yea, there's a big difference between saying NY is awesome and saying anywhere else sucks.  The former is just enthusiasm and the latter is asshattery.  I agree.

I've never considered arrogance or a love for the place you live to be a negative if I'm considering living some place.  If they're passionate about it as a group, there's probably a reason.  New Yorkers in general are considerably less shy (IMO) about expressing their opinions so what you perceive as arrogance is just them saying "hey, I think where I live is awesome".

Well I was mainly speaking from a cosmopolitan/salary/diversity standpoint, but yea Dallas is a great place.  I wouldn't mind living in NYC although I wouldn't live in LA for anything.  I really dislike that place for some reason.  Main problem with Dallas is the weather which is craptastic.

My estimated shipping date changed from 6/8 (which was today) to 6/27.  I may just switch and get a Dell.
