Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Howard University Question
« on: March 31, 2007, 01:07:35 PM »
I was just looking through the 2008 USNEWS rankings and for Howard University although the midrange GPA was 2.95-3.5 and LSAT is 148-154 they have a suprisingly high midrange salary for the private sector ($73-$125k).  I know Howard is in D.C. but being a 3rd tier school how are the top firms not picking up students from tier 1 and even tier 2 schools first before Howard? Is there something I'm missing about this school? and Seems like an excellent place to go if you have just OK gpa and lsat with a very profitable return in the private sector.

Just for fun I wanted to start a thread and get a take on what everyone thinks is the most surprising change in a school's ranking, gain or loss!? Which ones stand out to you?

Please list your top 3 and only 3, and feel free to give your reaction and if you want your personal opinion of why you think the change occurred. Thanks!

Choosing the Right Law School / Cornell vs Fordham placement
« on: February 26, 2007, 07:39:40 PM »
Does anyone have a good grasp on how well Cornell places? I mean being Ivy I'm sure it has a pretty decent national rep but as far as placement in BIGLAW in NYC I hear so much about Fordham but not much about Cornell. Any takers?

Studying for the LSAT / Are law school fairs really worth it???
« on: October 22, 2006, 04:29:09 PM »
Tomorrow there is a large law school fair in Philadelphia for those who live in the area. I was just wondering if it's really worth it to attend these things. I've never been to one but I have the feeling at the end of the day I'd just end up with a bunch of brochures and stuff from various law schools. Seeing as getting into law school is a numbers game with GPA and LSAT score is it really worth going to one of these things and getting information that probably could just as easily be obtained from online? Anyone who has gone to a law school fair did you find it helpful and if so in what ways? I'm just trying to get a good feel for this thing because it's in the middle of the day and I'm pretty busy as is already and I'm tryin to figure out if they are worth attending???  I dont feel it could really help with the admissions process and make it any easier getting into a certain school. Comments anyone?

Studying for the LSAT / Should I take the February or June 2007 LSAT???
« on: October 17, 2006, 08:38:22 AM »
Since I know I'm definitely not applying to schools until next Fall I was planning on taking the February LSAT, but I've heard mixed comments/opinons about the different LSATS and that the February may be unique compared to the rest. Should I just use the extra few months to keep studying or depending on my practice test scores relative to my goal decide when to take it? Does anyone know how the February LSAT usually is compared to the June??? Thanks!

I dont think it's on LSAC's website but I'm thinking of taking June 2007 rather than February exam since either way I'll be applying next Fall. I'm just trying to figure out how much solid free time I'll have from graduation in May until what date its offered in June. Just trying to find out if it's early mid or late June???

Studying for the LSAT / How does my GPA boosting plan sound???
« on: October 15, 2006, 09:36:56 PM »
Ok so I'm in the final stretch of undergrad. I'm entering my last semester senior year and I'm registering for classes tonight online. I'm roughly at a 3.54 GPA overall. I'm finishing up the last few classes I have for my double major in psychology and crimnal justice. Those classes I can consider As.  :)

But I have this plan that if law schools just take your GPA from your undergrad and throw that into the index (keeping in mind each school rates the undergrad as well) why not try to boost my GPA with anything I possibly can. In addition to the 3 psychs and 1 criminal justice class I have to take I was thinking of taking a very basic 3 credit macroeconomics class with an easy professor, a very basic 3 credit course in sociology with an easy professor, and maybe a gym class. I've really calculated it all out and I think with relatively all As I can bring my GPA up to a 3.6 when I graduate. When I say "easy" professors I'm speaking based off of numerous ratings compliment of Ratemyprofessor.com  I would never go and take extra courses with extremely tough professors that would hurt rather than help my GPA. So does anyone else see this as a negative plan or any opinions/comments??? :-\

Studying for the LSAT / For those taking the December LSAT...
« on: October 15, 2006, 08:23:55 AM »
Arent you guys worried that even with taking the LSAT in December and having the rest of your application complete you'll still need an EXTREMELY good score to get into the school's you're looking at? I mean with rolling admissions and such it only gets more difficult to get in with a late application...
