Law School Admissions / Re: Taking a year or two off before law school?
« on: November 05, 2008, 11:13:19 PM »
Agreed.  I doubt TFA will be the deciding factor at Harvard, but I think a year spent doing something other than studying is good for most people.  I'm glad I didn't go straight from ug to ls.

And please let it end at that. No endless recounts or lawsuits...

So long as no lawsuits are warranted.

Law School Admissions / Re: T14 v. T20 w/ Scholarship

In the same breath, isn't it alot more stressful when you have $150,000 in debt to worry about when you are looking for a job? I would take no debt, with very limited but still OK options, (GW) over the likelihood that I will hate my biglaw life, or the possibility that after taking out that much money, I may not want to go into big law or law at all.

This is how I'm playing.  Of course, I don't intend to pursue biglaw.  If biglaw is your absolute priority, then you have to go with the security of the T14.

You seriously have the creepiest avatar possible.

Pete & Pete is not creepy

I love Pete & Pete (one more than the other) but the show can be downright creepy.  Anyone remember the episode "Tool and Die?"

Thanks, DDP.  Your screen name makes me smile, twitch and brush my teeth.

Thanks guys, crystal clear on GW.

USC might be a bit high.  I think WUSTL is an obvious choice.  I'm not sold on St. Louis...

I think GW has a program that awards full scholarships to students accepted ED.  My understanding is that if you apply through this program and are not awarded the full ride, you are no longer bound to attend.  Anyone know more?

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Which schools have pretty good LRAPs?

http://www.equaljusticeworks.org/resource/100lawschools

This seemed to be a good source.  BC, BU, GW, Washington & Lee, William & Mary links are broken.

WUSTL
Gist:  The school will pay up to 100% loan forgiveness for gross income below $25,000; 50% forgiveness at $40,000; and 26% forgiveness at $48,000.  Gross income limit 55,000.  Minimum ug+ls loan $20,000.  Government or 501(c)(3) PI jobs qualify.  Clerkships do not.

Brooklyn
Gist: 5 Year LRAP, maximum $7,000/year.  501c3 PI jobs qualify, government jobs and clerkships do not.  Max income upon entering LRAP program is 53,105.  Maximum income rises each year, cap is 63,600 in the fifth year.  LS loans must equal or excede the maximum Stafford loans available.  (I think 61,500 right now?)
