4K-$900 student loan payment- $1200 rent/mortgage - $500 car payment -$1000 food and incidentals=broke.
You are not broke if you have $1000/month to spend on food and incidentals I don't make all that much more than that TOTAL per month and I am still getting money saved for law school (entirely supporting myself). Plus, 1200/month rent? Maybe in NYC or something. I am perfectly happy with my apartment thats $325 a month. I dont know what I would do with the space of a larger place.
Honestly, all these people who say that 100k starting salaries at law firms really aren't that great are just spoiled. If you are supporting a large family, thats different- but those types appear to be the minority.
The more important question- do you have a job at all after law school? There are many who dont.
