Where do you current students reside? I have lived on my own for awhile so I have actual furniture and belongings (so no LC for me). Any suggestions for great housing (and places to stay away from)?

I was wondering about this too. I'm trying to find something that would be nice and close to the law quad and relatively inexpensive. Any suggestions current students?

I've been lurking for a while. Accepted last year and deferred. I'm stoked about Michigan in the fall! Now my biggest concern is housing. Should admitted students day make this an easier decision? The cold doesn't scare me. It is 9 with snow and a -? wind chill here today.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Go to a T14 IN THIS ECONOMY!

My 'good reason' will be that I have grown up and lived there all of my life.  I'm hoping for the regional tie to help me (probably more than it really will).

So, I'm gonna ask this question here (I have trouble getting a real answer).  While I realize that T14 isn't auto biglaw do most people think that a T14 student should be able to get a job at a larger firm in a secondary (possibly tertiary (if there is such a thing)) market?

Really depends on the market and the school.

I know multiple (5) top half 7-14ers who are having some serious problems getting market in the secondary market of their choice.  3/5 have NYC though.

Yeah, this is kind of my fear.  I know that most of the people at this firm are coming from local schools (it's Wichita btw).  There are a few from T14s (primarily the one I'm going to) so I guess I'll just hope for the best.  I deferred anyway so it's not like I can change much.  Here's hoping I can get a job 1L summer.

I have to admit that I'm scared of even a T14 in this economy.  I have been trying to find out if people at the median to bottom end of mid-T14s are having any luck securing summer gigs.

Law School Applications / Re: Ask a UMich 1L who doesn't know much yet

I'm trying to assess the pros and cons of the different living arrangements.  What do you know about the PHID house, Law Quad, graduate housing, and local apartments?  Which are you doing and what would you choose now based on what you know?

Also, have you felt swamped?  Do you think others have?

Law School Applications / Re: Apply now and defer or apply next year?
« on: August 18, 2008, 02:31:35 PM »
If you seriously need scholarships I would wait and apply next year.  Reason being, if you are deferred you are going to be locked into a school and won't have any real bargaining power in the scholarship process.  Plus, your application may get stronger and there is nothing saying that everywhere you get in will be willing to defer you for a year.

This isn't true.  An 11 point jump is completly possibly even through self study.  I went from a 152 to a 166 through self study and it was progressive lending me to believe I didn't just screw up.  So, go and study as hard as you can and you can probably get up there.

Yeah, I saw the blogs there but I had the feeling that, like GCoop stated, they are probably monitored.  Also, I looked through them and most of them were really short and didn't have much information.  I figured a search of google blogs would give me someone but I didn't find anybody from UMich.
