Current Law Students / What do Non Profit Lawyers make?
« on: January 19, 2009, 02:13:31 PM »
After several years of experience?  I know you won't start off too high (I hear like $35-$45K) but what about as you advance?

Current Law Students / So what now
« on: January 13, 2009, 06:27:00 PM »
T-50 school (ranked 40-50 in US News) got my first semester grades back....not what I had hoped. Not horrible, but straight B's and I think our school has a 3.0 or 3.2 curve, can't remember exactly. So what should I do now? I really want to work in private practice, not biglaw but a small to midsize firm. Other than improving this semester, what can I do to help my case to distinguish myself when I am decidedly middle of the pack?

Incoming 1Ls / 1L summer
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:54:46 PM »
Hey Guys, maybe you can shed some light on this....

I am going to be starting my 1L at the U of Florida in a couple of weeks. I know this is getting a bit ahead of myself, but what exactly should I expect to do my 1L summer? Ideally, I would like to do something that is law related and pays well (or pays anything for that matter). I know that many firms hire from their 2L pool, but what about 1L? Is it realistic at all to score an internship as a 1L (assuming decent grades)?

Law School Admissions / UF and Other State Schools In State Tuition
« on: April 28, 2008, 06:54:39 PM »
I am sorry if this is redundant..

A while back I know there was a thread on where you could get instate tuition after one year. I cannot remember if Univ of Florida made the list. I am already going there as an out of stater, so if I cant get it I am screwed either way but I thought I should at least find out for sure and I cannot seem to get that info on the website. Thanks.

Choosing the Right Law School / UF vs, Stetson Full Ride

For placement in Tampa Bay area, which is better?

For placement in FL as a whole?

Which would you choose if given those options and why?

Law School Admissions / How long to go Complete?
« on: December 04, 2007, 08:46:09 AM »
So I sent in my apps right around Thanksgiving. My LSDAS file and reccomendations are in order and have been since October. How long does it generally take to go complete? I just checked my Illinois status checker and it says my file is incomplete even though I have sent in everything on the checklist. Should I contact the schools further or give it a few more weeks. I am nervous because we are into December already....

Law School Admissions / In State Residency
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:05:39 PM »
Is there a list of state schools that allow you to become a resident after 1 year? I am specifically interested in the Florida schools. I'm kind of pissed because I will have lived in FL for over a year by the time I would start but I don't think I qualify because my parents are helping with rent =(

Hello all,

I realize you get dozens of threads like this each day, but I was hoping that someone could please help me with compiling a list of schools that I should apply to. I am primarily focused on the Southeast (FL and GA) but I am also willing to consider a big city (Chicago or NYC) if I were to get into a tier 1 that places well there. Here is what I was thinking:

Reach: Fordham (NYC), U of Illinois, Emory (Atlanta), U of Gerogia, maybe WUSTL (St. Louis), maybe Washington and Lee Univ (Virginia).

Targets: UF, George Mason Univ (Virgina), Wake Forest (North Carolina).

Safety: FSU, Stetson (St. Pete!), Univ of Miami, GSU.

Thank you

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Virginia schools that are not UVA

Anybody know about them? Specifically Geroge Mason, Wash and Lee, (I think I am forgetting a third). They seem to match up with my numbers fairly well (3.69/163) so I am thinking of applying to them. If anyone can speak to quality of life, location, and especially post grad placement I would be greatful.

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Lowdown on UF and Tampa market
« on: October 22, 2007, 01:39:26 PM »
Hey guys,

please give me the info posted in the topic to your knowladge. I really love the Tampa Bay Area and I would love to work there but I don't really know what kind of law is practiced there. It is a major metro area so I would assume some of everything but I am not really sure.

Also, I am thinking of UF for law school. I have a 3.69/163 from a top 25, so I think I stand a good chance of admisson. Also, how does UF place outside of FLA? And what is your opinion of the law school? I know there have been threads comparing the three FLA schools but I am gearing this post specificly twoards Tampa. I have lived in Miami for the past 6 months (will be here through July) and I doubt I would want to settle here but I really love FLA....
