There is no way you are going to "snag" a coveted federal district courtship with no relevant legal experience, no journal, and a Tier 2 school.

I'm on Law Review (as my OP stated) and worked for a firm last summer...

It's still unlikely for a tier 2 grad to get a district court clerkship.  That's reality, unless you are willing to move to no man's land, and even then it will be tough.

You thought you went to law school to learn things?  Silly 1L's hahaha.

You definitely would have time to study at night when you aren't doing social activities.  Also, a summer associateship is only 12 weeks usually, not the entire summer.

However, before you even start law school, I wouldn't count on a biglaw SA.  The reality is that very few 1L's end up getting market paying summer gigs and you have no idea how your grades are going to pan out.  I think you should save that ego for after 1L lol.

Also, why can't you study now?  Gimme a break, your job is that demanding?

I'm considering taking my GMATs and was wondering if the typical summer associate position at a law firm after 1L will leave me enough time to attend a GMAT class in the evenings. I want to apply for a JD/MBA during 2L. Unfortunately studying during this summer doesn't seem like a possibility as I work evenings at my current job.

First off, what makes you so sure you will have a 1L summer associateship?  Where do you go to school?  Grades?

Second, why would you want a JD/MBA?

Let it go already.  Just because you went to a TTT and failed miserably at life doesn't mean others will do the same.  Go post this crap on the pre-law board already.

Hair splitting aside:  The reality is that top law school graduates, ON AVERAGE, make significantly more than those that attended a TTT.

General Board / Re: EXAMS' TIME: STUDY AS LESS AS YOU CAN

Back to the original purpose of this thread: As sad as it is, there often is no correlation between how hard one studies and their grades.  Sure, there is the whole "study smart, not hard" argument.  However, the reality is in law school you will often get grades you never anticipated after taking an exam.  It's the most arbitrary system ever in most law schools and it is just something one deals with.

Non-engineering isn't going to look all that spectacular to IP firms.  However, at the end of the day, it still comes down to school rank.  It may be stupid, and you may not agree with it, but big firms go to the big schools.  It's just how it is.
