He's telling you his personal view.  I just don't see how that is a basis for saying that median at Vandy gets DC BigLaw.  It may not even be consistently true at his firm.  Maybe he knows a couple of cases where that's happened. 

I don't think you're reading my post correctly. He is the hiring partner. He does the hiring. It isn't anecdotal at his firm, it's consistent.

He consistently hires median students from Vandy?  Or he would give them a shot? 

Even if so, I still don't think this is generalizable to the market in general.

They can prob also get certain public sector jobs (noncompetitive ones), or working at crappy Insurance Defense firms.  The salary you'd make from below median at Fordham would probably not be enough to live in NYC...

Would if I could...it would definitely be the better option if you want to work in NYC.

Median at Fordham is probably less likely to get you NYC BigLaw than median at Vandy.  That being said, I think it might be somewhat of a toss-up.  If you really can't bear to tear yourself from NYC for 3 years, then Fordham with the money might be the way to go.  But again, it's a tough decision and I could understand going either way.

Vandy does place excellently, but I am just not sure how well it translates to the Northeast.  If I saw something that indicated a strong NYC placement trend, I'd probably tell you to go Vandy

I'm quoting a hiring partner at a Vault DC firm. Maybe it's just his firm, but I doubt it.

I don't think his view is generalizable to the entire DC BigLaw market at all.  Median at schools higher ranked than Vandy doesn't consistently get DC BigLaw...
