Law School Applications / At a TOTAL loss of what to do
« on: June 29, 2006, 09:15:27 PM »
After getting my LSAT score, I'm now so unsure of what to do that it's driving me crazy.  I scored a 166 (practice tests were 168-172 average), and will have a 3.67 LSDAS GPA when I apply (Straight As since 2nd semester frosh year except 2 Bs).  Below is a list of schools that I want to apply, I know some of them are a reach, even with a 168-169, but yea:

Michigan
UVA
Georgetown
Duke
George Washington
Illinois
Notre Dame
USC
UCLA
BU
BC

Based on this list, do you think I should retake?  My soft factors will be pretty strong, with great LORs and a very strong PS.

So I see an email sitting in my inbox with the Subject line YOUR LSAT SCORE.  Then I looked at the "From" line, and realized that my friend is a GIGANTIC D-BAG

Studying for the LSAT / Are anyone else's friends
« on: June 29, 2006, 11:03:07 AM »
totally devoid of any clue as to how big a deal this is?  I have friends saying "Oh stop worrying already, it doesn't matter that much, it's only a test, etc...

Clearly they don't get it.  And it makes me want to kill them

Law School Applications / How would they ever find out?
« on: June 27, 2006, 01:17:49 PM »
So on all applications, as you probably know, you have to disclose any probationary status that you have been placed on.  My freshman year I was temp. placed on academic probation because of my poor grades due to mono, which was retroactively eliminated because it wasn't my fualt, and those grades were cancelled.

At my school, however, probation statuses are never sent out on official transcripts.  Do law schools have a different way to find this information?  I need to find out if there are any other residual traces of this probation that I must purge so that law schools don't mistakenly think I was really on probation.

Thanks

Law School Applications / LOR Question
« on: June 22, 2006, 03:01:15 PM »
Hey, I will be applying to Duke in the fall amongst many other schools, and I had a LOR question.

This past semester I had a full-time internship with the US Attorney's Office in DC where my mentor was a graduate of Duke Law.  Under normal "intern circumstances" I would assume that these kinds of bosses are not prime LOR writers when you have easily accessible academic references.  HOWEVER, I worked very closely with this particular prosecutor, doing alot of work that is uncommon for pre-law school interns to be doing (writing motions, helping with jury selection at the bench, etc...).  Would you think that this along with the fact that he is a Duke graduate would warrant a LOR from him (only for Duke).  I only ask because I've read many p[laces that LORs from alumn/important people don't usually help.

Thanks
