Law School Admissions / Re: Boalt - "Passed initial review"

to be fair, i didn't look at his lsn...so you might be right.

thought you must agree that while chi and cls look for something interesting too, they are much more numbers-oriented than boalt.

This is one of the reasons I feel that I have an ever-so-slight chance at Boalt with my numbers. I hope that the 1/3 LSAT, 1/3 GPA, and 1/3 EC holds! I swear I have been pulling my hair out about Boalt these past few days. I hope to look back at this process and feel at peace with it.  ;)

FWIW, I didn't get this email last semester (complete in mid-December I think) and ended up getting WL'ed in early March.  Good luck to everyone still waiting for a response.

From your sig. it looks as though you were accepted off the WL, congrats! I heard that they didn't offer many people a seat from the WL last year. That gives me a lot of hope!

Also no ding for me yet.

I saw that you were a EE, how is e-school at Berkeley? Tough? I heard it was super competitive.

As every good scholar does, I have analyzed LSN over and over again. This, so far, is what I have come up with (keep in mind this all hinges on what people put in their profiles):

Of the 114 acceptances only 21 are from CA; on Boalt's website:

"Do in-state applicants have higher preference than those from out of state?

You have a roughly equal chance of being admitted regardless of your residency. We strive to enroll a class that has a majority of residents, but we offer admissions to an equal number of residents and nonresidents in order to obtain the ration we seek."

Take this with a grain of salt, but it seems that they are set to accept more CA residents.

Next the number of people applying to Boalt is down from 743 to 544, a 27 percent decrease. Some might attribute this to LSN and not actual applications, but since its inception (not including this year) LSN has shown a steady increase in the number of applicants for Boalt: 382 in 03-04; 591 in 04-05; 743 in 05-06.

Again, reality check for me, there are still 3 days to apply until the deadline, but perhaps the economy is again lowering the number of applicants to law schools.

My final piece of insane, type-a, inventiveness is the process for rolling admissions. It seems that they take a certain bulk of applicants and mark them complete based on their application date. From this group the auto-admits are notified and then the others are put aside. I guess two piles, reject and defer. Then they mark the next batch complete and go through the same process.

But the problem lies with people like me, who have not heard anything; perhaps, as someone said earlier, a separate CA pile? Who knows.

Sorry for the rambling post, but I have been on LSN for the last four hours straight. Time to get back to my HW. I would love to see what you all think of this.

Just an update, checked my mail, and no letter. WHEW! (I am in SoCal)

May I ask your numbers?

No prob, 170/3.2. That is why I am so anxious, I thought I would for sure get a letter. Perhaps it does say something to be an engineer  ;)

Heh, I hope it does! Come on Boalt, we you know you like us IP types!

Totally!!

you could call and ask for a status update on your app. sometimes that works.

I was told it is better not to bother them, but it is always worth a shot! Now if I can only find the courage to do it.

I would call but wouldn't know what to say, and really don't want to be whiney.

I know what you mean, I have been so close to calling the admin office and asking what is going on...but then I restrain myself.
