Wait List / Re: Accepted off waitlist but may be too late
« on: July 23, 2008, 10:25:47 PM »
IIf you were getting at least half-ride (and for me, it'd need to be full ride) from the T40, then you'd have a dilemma.  But if the T40 is only giving you 15k a year, to me this is a NO BRAINER!   ::)

15k a year is a Full ride at some state schools...  OP needs to clarify his particulars because the wild-ass speculation here is running rampant.
all figures assume in-state since we don't know about OP's particulars

Univ of Wash-22K yr  ranked 30
Ohio State- 20k yr ranked 32
Univ of Iowa- 16k ranked 27
Univ of Georgia- 12K ranked 32
if the OP said T40 he/she probably meant #40 which is:
UNC 13K yer
UC hastings 24k yr
Univ of Maryland  21k yr

location matters in law school decisions, T14 esp if it isn't HYS doesn't carry that holy grail that all you speculators think it does.  If you want to work in NYC/Boston/DC then NYU is a great option, if you want to work in Seattle then you had better take your 15k at Washington.

No, there isn't.  He could graduate at the bottom of his NYU class and still have his pick of AZ jobs

I don't agree with this.  A NYU grad will get asked his class rank just like a Arizona or ASU grad will.  Hiring Partner at Phoenix/Tucson Biglaw  Firm takes the candidate with Arizona ties unless that person was bottom of their class as well.

OP needs to somewhat clarify his location, schools, and where he/she would like to practice if they want practical advise.

Wait List / Re: Wisconsin waitlist arrrggggggh
« on: July 21, 2008, 02:56:35 PM »
I too am waitlisted at UW. I spoke with the dept secretary recently and she confirmed that movement is minimal right now and that the class is considered full. I get the feeling that there isn't going to be much movement because of the economy, but keep in mind that if some of the higher-ranked schools start admitting now into next month, there should be a little movement. Also, because of UW doesn't require a seat deposit, I'd imagine some people are holding out until the last minute (either because of other wait lists, job offers, etc) to say they aren't going. Some new supporting materials were coming in this week, so I'll double check with the admissions dean next week and check in again.
I am annoyed that UW does not have a seat deposit deadline.
I wish they had one,  it would make things a little easier to deal with on my end.  Instead have to wait it out longer.  Of course, the primary objective of seat deposit deadlines is not to appease those on the wait-list.
I believe on LSN's some individuals have been rejected from the wait-list, so they have been making some adjustments, not sure if those individuals expressed an interest in the Law School though.  But, the admissions dean, stated that an individual could be taken off the wait-list up until the first day of classes ( of course all dependent on someone not showing up for whatever reason).

I am getting the same info and treatment at Oklahoma...  I am thinking that if someone doesn't show up for orientation then they will start making phone calls.  The admissions dept said as much when I spoke with them last week.  They told me "we are where we need to be for the fall semester as of now." I interpret that as we are overbooked now and waiting for some people to drop or get off waitlists at better schools, then if enough of those people happen, we might call...

I am making plans to go to Arkansas but keeping my house in Norman, will wait to put it up for rent until September when I know I am staying at Arkansas.  I really don't want to move twice in a month, but if OU calls I will make the fastest move in history of mankind!

Where should I go next fall? / Have to decide...

Oklahoma City U or Arkansas?   Go to the best school I got in at Arkansas(100) or OCU (190ish)?   OU is not making waitlist decisions anytime soon, I called last week, and so I need to move or stay.  I would like to return to OKC/Norman area after graduation and I feel that Arkansas will give me more leverage/prestige in the OKC market.   THIS SUCKS...

Wait List / Re: still on waitlist!

being waitlisted is worse than the wait to see if your girls prego test has that little + sign or the - sign.  At least she only has to pee.  This wait is f-ing killing me.

For those of you who left jobs with a longer tenure, how much notice did you give? The standard 2 weeks?

about 6 months, but I have been there 15years and my boss knew that I was leaving to go to law school after i finished my UG.

Wait List / Re: Pepperdine Waitlist
« on: July 13, 2008, 10:38:33 PM »
LSN is a very helpful sight to an extent, however, given the thousands of applications many law schools receive it's not necessarily representitive of those applying and being accepted/rejected/waitlisted.

and neither is asking ONE single person. I know full well the limitations of the info on LSN, but thanks for the lesson.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question or offer any help, but if you wouldn't mind (understandable if you would), what was your LSAT/GPA and when did you apply?  I'm curious because I'll be applying to Pepperdine during the '08 - '09 cycle.

Again, if it's TMI, no worries.

lawschoolnumbers.com has all the info you could ever need
