Current Law Students / Sitting in the law library today...
« on: August 31, 2008, 07:11:46 PM »
and some random guy walks up to me and starts asking me about divorce law and multi-state judgments and so on while I was in the middle of reading.  Wouldn't let me get a word in edge wise, finally I told the dude I am not an attorney and cannot give legal advice.  He wouldn't give up though.  Finally I told the guy to consult an attorney because he wouldn't shut up and was wasting my time.  He got the hint when I finally picked my book up and pretended to start reading again.   Damn public university library rules about "citizen" access...

Arkansas - Fayetteville / Arkansas school news
« on: July 24, 2008, 02:34:14 PM »
I found out today that Arkansas will be sending out class schedules and book list within a week...  They have been reducing class size as well with only 144 or so for this years class, 2 sections of 72.  Legal writing split into 5 sections though.

Choosing the Right Law School / Have to decide...
« on: July 20, 2008, 08:56:40 PM »
Oklahoma City U or Arkansas?   Go to the best school I got in at Arkansas(100) or OCU (190ish)?   OU is not making waitlist decisions anytime soon, I called last week, and so I need to move or stay.  I would like to return to OKC/Norman area after graduation and I feel that Arkansas will give me more leverage/prestige in the OKC market.   THIS SUCKS...

Arkansas - Fayetteville / Housing/Apartment suggestions
« on: July 08, 2008, 05:07:41 PM »
I am growing impatient with OU and the waitlist and will be traveling to Fayetteville in the coming weeks to search for an apartment.
1.Any tips on places to avoid?
2. Would like to bike/scooter to class so distance is important.
3. Would like something newer vs. older.  Price is important, but I would gladly pay an extra $100 a month for something new/newer.

I know Fayetteville pretty well but I have never lived in an apartment and as such need some advice in the area.

Current Law Students / # of OCI interviews and employers
« on: March 12, 2008, 02:32:14 PM »
How important is the number of OCI interviews and employers that a school reports in getting a job?  One school I am interested in has lists just 5 OCI, and another lists 35.  Essentially the same rank of school, but I would have to move for the school with 35 OCI.  I would assume that the school that has 35 OCI would hire deeper into the class? right?

Job Search / Over 30 yrs old recent grads question
« on: January 18, 2008, 03:51:23 PM »
I've got a couple of questions for the over 30 3L's and grads.

How receptive were firms/clerkships about your age during your job search?
Did you sense any hesitation or feel that you got less interviews because of your age?
Do you feel your younger classmates had a better chance of getting a job?

I ask because I am 33 yo entering LS this coming fall and was curious.

thanks in advance.

Oklahoma City U / OCU student question
« on: December 05, 2007, 03:27:36 PM »
I am considering OCU for next fall and was wondering if any of the current students including 2 and 3Ls would be willing to share their opinions on this school.  I visited the campus earlier this year and was impressed but I wondered if the tuition is worth it.  How deep and how well are students recruited and does this only apply to the top 25%?  I am worried that if I happen to fall outside of the top 25% that I will be scrambling to get job, much less a decent paying job.   I have a friend that graduated from OCU law a few years ago and she was outside the top 25% and she still hasn't found a job that pays over $35K in the OKC area.  Does the job market for OCU grads suck in OKC or just for those that are just mediocre in law school?

Choosing the Right Law School / Missouri--Kansas City quandary
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:03:02 PM »
According to this study:   The statistical difference between Missouri-Columbia, U of Kansas, and UMKC is negligible.   What gives?  I thought that U of Kansas and Mo-Columbia had the pick of the best jobs in Kansas City.  I have also heard lots of bad things about UMKC, anyone have any solid info?
