Hello everyone.  I wanted to ask you all if you think today's Supreme Court case will have any implications for affirmative action at the college level.

Does going private make any difference or do anti-affirmative action laws apply to all schools regardless?

Where should I go next fall? / Re: University of Pennsylvania

Thanks everyone... I have just one more question though.  How much is off-grounds housing the UPenn area?  Housing in Charlottesville can be quite high in places (especially around the University).  I would estimate that a two bedroom near UVA will run about 1100-1300 and in some cases more.  How does Philadelphia compare to most other cities when it comes to cost?

Well right now I am just a third-year (junior for most normal schools  ;) ) at the University of Viginia.  I was born and raised in Charlottesville, VA and really looking to get out and be independent.  One thing that always concerns me is how safe an area is.  How safe is the UPenn campus?  Is it easy to wonder off into the "wrong" part of town?  Also, I am really interested in constitutional law, especially election law, how good is the program there and do they offer a broad course selection in this area?  Another concern for me is cultural diversity and the acceptance of it.  Don't get me wrong I love UVA but sometimes I feel a little secluded when I am on grounds.  People don't mix a lot here which makes me very uncomfortable sometimes being that my high school (just four miles up the road in Albemarle) was the complete opposite.  Finally, what suggestions do you have to offer regarding the general admissions process besides high scores and gpa?

Thanks for your help everyone.

I was wondering if anyone here attends U Penn or visited there?  I have been researching schools lately and UPenn has really caught my interest.  It seems like its location is ideal, its student body seems rather diverse, and that's without mentioning its presitge and reputation.  Does anyone have an opinion about UPenn?

Black Law Student Discussion Board / Minorities at UPenn Law?

I have been researching law schools lately and became very interested in Penn Law.  The class sizes seem small, its location seems excellent, it has a good reputation, and it appears to have a lot of diversity.  I was wondering if there is anyone out there with first hand experience who could tell me what the admissions process and schol life was like.

Black Law Student Discussion Board / 2006 Elections
« on: July 31, 2006, 12:39:37 PM »
With the 2006 general election less then one hundred days away:

What are some thoughts you all have?

What will turn out be for the Black community? The US as a whole?

Do you all think Black Republican candidates in states like Ohio and Pennsylvania will make that much of a difference when it comes to Republican performance among Blacks?

What will happen with the Michigan ballot imitative to end affirmative action?

What are the hottest races?

Finally, do Republicans maintain control of the House and Senate or do the Democrats pick up one or both?

Feel free to add more
