Hey...just got back from Chicago a few minutes ago. I had such a blast at Northwestern, but the thing that sold me on the school (I'm 99% going there now) is what happened when I visited on Friday. I sat in on a torts class (the professor was engaging, students were paying attention for the most part, and there was a palatable feeling of camaraderie amongst them, but that's not my point), then, afterwards, I was going to take a tour of the school.

On my way, a current 1L saw me, introduced himself, and asked if I was an admitted student because I looked kind of lost. I said that I was, and he proceeded to take me over to a couple of his friends (also 1Ls) and introduce me to them. He and his friends started discussing lunch plans. He said he had to run to class in a minute, so he couldn't go to lunch with them. His friends turned to me and, not 20 seconds after meeting me, asked me if I wanted to go to lunch with them. I agreed, and we walked over to a Thai place a few blocks away from the school. We ate and talked for about an hour and a half, about Northwestern law (they both loved it and said they probably would have gone to higher ranked schools had they got into them, but they said they probably wouldn't have been nearly as happy if they had done that) and a lot of other things too. Near the end of lunch, they said they were going to a party the next night and said they would put both me and my boyfriend on the guest list, then they gave me their phone numbers and e-mail addresses and told me to call and/or e-mail them.

Last night, my boyfriend and I went to the club where the party is, and for the hour and a half we stayed (I had an early flight), they insisted that they hang out with us. They introduced us both to some more of their 1L friends and we had a great time.

I came to the conclusion that if these people are representative of the kinds of people at Northwestern (and I think they are), I can't see a reason I would want to go to law school any other place.

I'm leaving in a couple hours! See everyone on Saturday! (I have a pretty funny/really fun thing to do Friday night that's preventing me from going to Friday evening events -- I'll tell you about it if I meet you :) )

e-mail and see if there's space. it took stephanie wuertzel less than an hour to get back to me.

I'll be there Friday and Sat.  Is anyone else going to the diverse students dinner on Friday night?

Not going to the dinner, but I'll be sitting in on a class Friday morning.

Where should I go next fall? / Northwestern ASW Question
« on: March 27, 2007, 10:08:29 PM »
Hey, just wanted to know if anyone is going to sit in on a class this Friday and if so, which one? I'm definitely sitting in on one of the 10:25am classes listed on the admitted student site, I just can't choose. Any suggestions on which class I should sit in on from prospective and current students would be appreciated! (and if you're sitting in on one of the classes, let me know which one, having company would be nice)

Here are the classes:

Torts, Professor Albert Yoon, Wieboldt 350
Intellectual Property, Professor Olufunmilayo Arewa, Rubloff 339
Conflict of Laws, Professor Carole Silver, Levy Mayer 212
Estates and Trusts, Professor James Lindgren, Levy Mayer 104

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Northwestern Financial Aid
« on: March 27, 2007, 09:52:36 PM »
Well I did. But when HLS sent me my package, it included all the different types of loans that I would need to take out, and the package took into account living expenses -- I'm still going to have to take out 20K a year for NU, and I just wasn't sure if they would send me something in the mail, or if the one scholarship email I got was it.

ah...makes sense. I got my scholarship offer but haven't received my other aid package (with loans, etc.) either. we'll corner 'em @ asw. ;)

Law School Applications / Re: WUStL Scholarship E-mail
« on: March 27, 2007, 12:14:14 PM »
I just withdrew (it was pretty painful because WUSTL gave me a good chunk of money and I love St. Louis), so hopefully someone who wants WUSTL will get my $$.

PS MCB...I LOVE Gadget from the Rescue Rangers!

I'm having a problem with NU.  I sent all my infor in just after the Feb 15 deadline but I oked an extension with them first and I still haven't heard about financial aid.  I have a scholarship deadline and another school's deposit deadline on the 15th of April, which I've raised with NU but they said it will take another couple of weeks.

Thats cutting it pretty close especially if I need to negotiate for more money.  What can I / should I do.

I sent my finaid info in to Northwestern before 2/15 and, aside from my scholarship, haven't received an official financial aid package from them yet. Anyone know when they're planning on figuring this out??

I thought you got a full ride, mufich? Why would you need an official finaid package?
