Liberals believe the law can be used to set social policy and correct injustice. Consertatives tend to believe law is set to protect and create order. Liberals have a larger view of what law means, so I guess since its more encompassing they tend to do it more than consertatives. Plus all the major law areas, NY, LA, Chi, DC, are very liberal. Just a guess. Same thing can be said as more consertatives go into stocks and investment banking than liberals.
