New York Law School / Re: Books?

Got the big mailer with the schedule.  Do we have to wait till advance week to know what books to purchase?
I just spoke with the book store. It sounds like so long as we have our schedule we'll be fine. We can just stop by and pick up whenever. Keep in mind that they mostly have just used books at this point. They will have more new books towards the end of next week or the beginning of the week after.

Also, did the mailing include reading assignments.  I'm sure mine will come on Monday or Tuesday, but I'm anxious to know.  Thanks.

Yeah, it came in two seperate envelopes for me. I got both on Friday but I live in the city so I was able to get everything pretty quickly. The other package has a ton of stuff in it. If you don't get it today, I would call.

New York Law School / Did everyone get the email from Dean Perez

Looks like they are sending out schedules this Thursday. That's good news. I really didn't want to wait until the end of the month.

Are you kidding?!?! This is a joke. We need to be able to start planning our lives. I spoke to them last week and I got a completely different time frame. The problem with having to wait so long to get all this is that we also are going to have reading assignments in there for when we report to school. So, they are going to provide us with enough lead time.

Has anyone bought their laptop yet? If so, what did you get? I'm still shopping around. Would really prefer an iBook or PowerBook but I am not sure how much trouble this woudl cause. I am just a big believer in Apple. Any info on this would be helpful.

Anyone get their latest packet yet? I hoping to get it by today or tomorrow. But who knows. They were hoping to have everything done by Thursday. But I don't know if they in fact did.

Hey all -- I spoke with the Office of Adm yesterday and they said they would be mailing out schedules hopefully by Thursday. If not, then definitely early next week. They are off on Fridays in the Summer.

General Board / Re: NYLS($$$) vs Touro($)

I'm starting in the Fall. Not sure about 2nd year scholarships. The financial aid office will answer that though. They said at Admitted Students Day that anyone in the top 15% will automatically get $$ the 2nd year. They didn't say how much though. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I was accepted to both.  Touro offer me $3000 for part time.  NYLS didn't offer me any money.  It would cost me $28,000 to go to NYLS part time as compare with 16,500 in Touro.  I would most likley would like to practice locally. which school should I go to?
Hey Ronnie-- I am going to NYLS PT so I am biased. But from what I understand, NYLS even as a Tier 3 is in a totally different league than Touro. I know cost is an issue but seriously consider what you might make after you graduate from NYLS v. Touro. From what I understand, NYLS has a solid career placement office. That was an important factor in my decision. I also live and work in the city so that made a difference as well. Good luck the decision.
