General Board / Crazy, crazy students
« on: April 19, 2006, 11:36:37 AM »
Not sure if this has been discussed in other threads (I did a search for "competitive students" and didn't see much) but I was wondering what people's experiences are in terms of hyper-competitive students stealing bookbags/notes, tearing out pages of library books, etc., with the intention of sabotaging other student's grades.  I've definitely heard some horror stories but wasn't sure how true they were.

Have you guys had any experiences with that kind of stuff?  And what school do you go to or what schools are definitely known to have that kind of atmosphere?

U of California - Los Angeles / Housing around UCLA
« on: March 16, 2006, 11:13:52 AM »
I'm thinking about attending UCLA this fall, and I'm looking for advice on housing.
I'm from NJ and my first time vising LA will be during the Welcome Reception 4/9, so right now I have no idea what i'm getting myself into.

Is it difficult to get on-campus housing?  What towns do most students live in, and what are the best ways to find apartments?

About how much should I expect to spend on rent (assuming I'm going to get my own place and would like to live in a relatively safe area)?  Also, I want to bring a car -- is it hard to find apartments that come with parking?

How do most people get to classes?  Bus?  Is public transportation reliable in the area?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give.

so, I'm thinking about withdrawing from UCLA and re-applying this fall (they don't allow deferment).  anyone have any experiences with re-applying or thoughts on what my chances of getting back in are?

I sort of feel like I was lucky to get in in the first place (3.6/166) so i better just take it now.  I don't really have a great excuse, I just want to work another year where I am for the extra money.  On the other hand, if I submit my application on the very first day, and apply early decision, maybe I could get in again?

Thoughts?
