What's wrong is that your definition of "better" is more than a little flawed.

Dude, if I was a Dean of Admissions and applicants were sending me GREETING CARDS, I'd laugh and toss them too.

That a. is stupid b. is cheesy c. crosses a line.

I mean, really.

:D

I love that he's using a thread full of Joe Pa jokes and "they waitlisted me/rejected me" and other such scientific reasoning to support his ideas.

Law School Admissions / Re: What are "Mock Classes"?

For admitted students weekends.

Why not just have potential students go to real classes?

They'll probably give you a short, simple case to read. Then the class will be conducted as a general simulation of what a law school class might be like. It's not exact, but it gives you an idea.

It allows the school to accommodate all of the students visiting, and ensures that the material won't fly over your head (classes in the middle of the second semester will probably be dealing with stuff that you won't be able to pick up right off the bat), and will give at least some students the chance to participate.

cut your penn acceptance up into hundreds of tiny pieces and set it on fire.

barring some overriding attachment to philly this decisions should solely be between NYU and Columbia.

Cady is correct that this is stupid advice.  Granted, I'm not in law school but I can't imagine your life being infinitely worse if you choose to go to the fourth-best Ivy League law school instead of the third-best.

I don't say this based on personal beliefs.  I worked in a V10 firm before going to law school.  NYU/CLS/Harvard/Yale dominated the summer associate classes.  I think there were two Penn attorneys in the entire firm, one of whom graduated first in his class.  Law firms are very rigid in adhering to their prestige hierarchy and NYU and CLS are a definitive notch above Penn.  I'm not saying that Penn is a bad school, in fact I'd be there now if I could.  But with acceptances to CLS and NYU I wouldn't even consider Penn due to the reputation difference is has with employers.

There are a number of reasons for this that may not be related to the quality of the school/hiring practices.

Also, not everyone aspires to work at a V10 firm.

Also, I'll address this further when I'm not under a deadline.
