Well I just had my first first day of law school dream (feels like I am admitting that I just had a wet dream). Had all my clothes on but I didn't do the reading/assignment and was called on my the professor of course!  ;) Don't remember all the details, but there was a lot of moment in the classroom throughout the dream and there was a stool in the corner with a "dunce" cap on it. I am still not too unnerved about law school, but I was totally freaking out in the dream. I hope this isn't too soon. Anyone else have any extreme law school dreams yet? Share even if you didn't wet yourself ;)

Where should I go next fall? / Baffling Application Results
« on: April 09, 2005, 01:51:10 PM »
OK maybe not baffling but there are no consistencies in my waitlists and acceptances (my rejections are pretty much given). Not complaining with my results, heck I am going to law school next year which is all I wanted anyways. However, if I listed to conventional wisdom and concentrated on schools within my reach, I might have missed out on some great schools. Now I know Chisau isn't the greatest tool to use for admissions, I think it's great for comparing my results thus far.

Texas (deferral/rejection) 8.3%
GULC-PT (rejected) 1.1%
Vandy (pending) 6.7%
Minnesota (deferral) 7.1%
GWU-PT (rejected) 3.2%
W&L (waitlisted) 2.4%
Illinios (rejected) 12.2%
GMU (rejected) 4.5%
SMU (accepted) 31.3%
Baylor (summer/accepted) 5.2%
Oregon (rejected) 27.9%
Houston (waitlisted) 45.1%
L&C (rejected) 40.3%
Pepperdine (waitlisted) 52%
Willamette (pending) no %

Looking back at these percentages I realize how lucky I actually am, but happy I didn't waste money on a bunch of safety schools. Anyone else with wierd results?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / First Deposit
« on: March 28, 2005, 08:42:04 AM »
My first deposit is due on April 1st and I sent a check a few days ago. I am kinda worried because the only way to know if they actually received it is if they cash in the check (I know I should have had someone sign for it, but I really didn't think about it until now). Plus, the mail in DC really sucks, so I wouldn't be surprised if they lost it. Anyone call the school to make sure they know you want to go there? I could wait for them to cash it in, but it could be weeks and I don't want to lose my spot. Guess I should just suck it up and call them to check.

I'm just wondering if people out there are just waiting for this year's rankings before they actually decide. I know a drop from one tier to another might be major, but my choice is riding the bubble of the first tier so a second tier drop wouldn't really phase me. I guess it all depends on what schools you are looking at. A 2-3 drop within the T14 is probably going to have a greater impact on incoming students than the same drop with a school in the middle of the tiers (ie Berkeley). Just curious and bored.

General Off-Topic Board / Law School Here I Come!
« on: March 12, 2005, 01:19:29 AM »
It's Friday, 1:15AM, I have been here since 9AM, and I am NOW leaving the law firm to go home and come back again tomorrow at 9AM (yes it is a Saturday). Even the first year associates are out for the night. Suddenly law school seems like a breeze...I am already putting the traditional first year associate hours. ;)

Well I'm done....just rambling  ;D

Just wanted to start a thread for this scholarship. I know I don't have a decent chance, I would like to know when they start sending out invitations to interview. I believe the interviews begin March 12-13 (I think that is what ElizaB found out). I figure that they should be letting students know pretty soon if they are to interview. If you do get an invite, can you please state your stats for us with inquiring minds? Thanks!

Law School Applications / Confusing Application Results
« on: February 27, 2005, 02:04:59 PM »
Really confused with my application results this cycle...maybe it is because of my split LSAT, but it makes me glad that I didn't listen to conventional wisdom for applying and went for the schools I want to attend (even if it seems that I would be an auto reject). My stats are 150/158=154 and a 3.76. So far here are my results:

Georgetown PT - Reject
George Washington PT - Reject
George Mason - Reject
Illinois - Reject
Texas - Deferred, Reject
Minnesota - Deferred, Pending
SMU - Accepted
Baylor (summer) - Accepted
Houston - WL
Pepperdine - WL
Lewis and Clark - Pending
Vandy - Pending
Washington and Lee - Pending
Oregon - withdrew
Willamette - withdrew

I figured that I would have been accepted to Houston before getting accepted at SMU or Baylor. Even though Pepperdine is considered a reach for me, I figured that I would have a better shot at it than at the schools I was admitted to. I seriously doubt I will get into anymore schools, but I am glad I applied "just in case." If I re-did my applications, I would probably send more applications to the schools around the 40-50 range rank per USNews, but I would have picked Baylor and SMU over the other schools I would have applied to so no worries. I guess the point I am trying to make is to apply to a wider range...sometimes you will be really surprised. I know I risked not getting accepted again, but I am glad it worked out for me.  ;D

Denials / From Texas Deferral to Rejection
« on: February 24, 2005, 11:05:09 PM »
Well I am glad I finally got the letter. Disappointed with the result, but I knew it was a longshot. Got the letter today, dated Feb. 22nd. Oh well, I am still happy I am going to law school....even if it's not at Texas.  ;D

Denials / GMU is starting to Ding
« on: February 16, 2005, 10:22:00 PM »
It is official, I will be moving from DC (and I am not upset about that prospect  ;D). I guess my waitlist at GMU last year really was a fluke. Oh well. I was still very impressed with the school none the less...nice and helpful admission committee, really respectful students, and the school aint too shabby either ;). Texas here I come!  ;D
