Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Wake v Mason
« on: April 28, 2004, 05:14:59 AM »
Thanks again for the input! Your statements lead to a few questions:

Believe me, you won't have any problem finding a fantastic job in DC if you finish in the top 25% of your class at GMU.

I agree that placement from Mason in DC/Maryland would be good, but in my scenario above, I ask a hypo about finishing in Wake's 1% v Mason's 25%.  I assume that finishing in the top 1% of ANY first tier school is a good thing for most employers in DC/Maryland, but I am not certain.  What I am wondering is how high in Wake's placement would I need to go to overcome their distance from DC/Maryland compared to Mason?  It might be best estimated as something like, "Subtract X% of your standing from Wake to compare it with Mason."

I know this is very speculative, but I was wondering if anyone had real hiring experience in DC from Wake and could fill me in?

The initial comfort factor at a school will wear off quickly, trust me.

What info/experience are you basing this upon?

Thanks again!

I applied early and have not heard from them at all.  I called about two weeks ago and they said my file was in circulation being reviewed.  I guess they are behind the curve!

I really appreciate your input.  I am leaning towards the same thoughts you have.  I just don't know how much my class placement will suffer by going to Wake.  What is, for example, I could come in the top 1% at Wake but only the top 25% at Mason due to my comfort (or lack thereof?)

Anyone else have similar decisions or experiences?

I would love to hear from you!

Wait-listed about 2-3 weeks ago.  (170/2.33 34 years old)  Keep in mind that they extended their application deadline due to the cancelled LSAT tests in our area.

I got into GMU off of the waitlist as well!  (170/2.33, 34 years old)    I am a Maryland resident also admitted to Wake Forest and waitlisted at Maryland and American.

Tough decision on Mason v Wake... but I need to wait to hear from Maryland.

As for the residency question, check out this link:
