Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: University of Richmond

[...] the last word they gave me was that they do have a full class at this moment, which is not particularly what we want to hear.

When did you last communicate with them?  I haven't called since I got the latest letter (end of May).  Once I did the math, I realized thier class was already too full, and would take a lot of withdrawls for them to go to the PWL.  I'm still hanging in there, though...

ive made plans with another school, and am contemplating transferring in. richmond's a great area and the school's in the prettiest part. [...]

Does that mean you've withdrawn yourself from consideration?

Thanks for the info and good luck!

I may be going to Case this fall.  Just got back from Cleveland to look for apts.  Case is not in a very nice area.  I think they are trying their best to move up in the rankings--they are one of the schools that really seem to be benefiting from the trickle down of applicants w/ good GPAs and LSATs that are getting dinged at the tier one schools.  My application wasn't in until well after their deadline and I got in w/ money.

I got a letter just like this from Rutgers a few weeks ago.

I received letters from both Case and Rutgers.

Incoming 1Ls / Re: increase private loan certification amount
« on: July 16, 2004, 08:32:40 PM »
so are you guys saying that instead of using my savings to pay for the 1st year, and then taking out loans 2nd and 3rd years, that I should take out loans all three years and use my savings as backup to pad my living expenses budget?

That's what I plan to do.  Luckily, I've also got a 401K and retirement I can pull from, but only as backup and only as an emergency.

There are other loans you can get - I remember from a while back there was a lot of information about non-certified private loans you can get to supplement what the school certifies.  The interest rates are higher and it may be more likely to need a cosigner.  These just aren't gotten through your school's financial aid office.

What suprises me is that DMX's real name is Earl. It's no wonder he changed his artistic name.

Yeah, but whenever I hear "DMX" I immediately think of the 80s and little punk boys with little bicycles...  ;D

She's being used as a scapegoat because of her celebrity.  It doesn't really matter than she hasn't really done what the media is making her out to have done.  That's why it's ridiculous that she's being treated as a person who ran over a kid while driving drunk when all she did was run a stop sign.  It's riduculous, and I don't like it, but my cynical eyes and ears are not surprised she is being treated this way.

I am indeed surprised by it because she did nothing that constitutes corporate scandal.

That'd be like taking someone who runs a stop sign to court in an attempt to send a message to drunken drivers...

If Martha is guilty she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the judicial system (no more because she's a celebrity and no less because she's a celebrity) but Martha is being used as an example/attempt to crack down on corporate scandal. But are we really suprised by this?  ;)

I think we should all include where we live in addition to our income.  I make about 50k a year, but it doesnt get me nearly as far as 35K would in Iowa.

61K - urban Virginia (not Northern)

While her daughter was dating Waksal, Martha began to date him also. Waksal and Martha are no longer together and just admit to being "friends" but even sources like CNN will say that there was a romantic relationship b/w them.

Eww.  Just... eww.  My mom and I dating the same guy?  Only slightly less creepy than Woody and Sun Yi.

Martha - love ya and support ya and think you got screwed and all, but: getting with your daughter's man?  Eww.

Ken Lay was just recently indicted on several charges, including some that seem erroneous simply to bump of the prison term.  He deserves it, though.  And Bush was never convicted, or even charged, with anything.  Besides, Bush is accused by some of his critics of insider trading.  Martha was not found guilty of insider trading, but instead lieing to prosecutors and obstruction of justice.

Thanks and Gig 'Em,
Jason

This whole thing is BS!  What about the Keating 5 (includes John McCain) who looted the savings and loans industry in the 80's?  Or Ken Lay, or our own President who did the same thing back in Texas? Make an example out of them.  Our system is a joke.

If Martha Stuart was Bush, she never would have been tried.

Exactly!

Yeah, because if DMX (Earl Simmons) loses his image if found guilty for his alleged actions it isn't important. In that case Robert Downey Jr, Charlie Sheen, NHL star Kevin Stevens, and Nascar driver Samuel Potashnick should really steam your carrots because all allegedly found guilty of possession heroin and/or crack cocaine and violence and the only one who served a "significant" amount of jail time was Robert Downey, Jr.

I don't know about "steaming my carrots" (btw - I love that, can I adopt it?), but yeah, it does bug me that celebrities who do "serious" crime sometimes get off the hook a little too easily.  Not that lying isn't a crime, but I don't really think it compares to drugs, theft, and/or violence in terms of being a threat to society at large.

And no, I'm not surprised by it, it just "steams my carrots." ;D
