Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Northwestern or Cornell?

Cornell sounds more geared towards younger, out of college students while Northwestern more for older, working students.

By the way, here's where I get a little concerned. According to USNWR, median starting salary for private sector:

W&L: $83,500
Cornell: $125,000

For comparison purposes, here are some other schools ranked at the same or a lower number then W&L:

W&M: $95,000
BU: $125,000
GW: $125,000

WHAT GIVES!? Why is W&L's median salary significantly lower then similarly ranked or lower schools? I'd especially appreciate any insight from current W&Lers who might have an inside explanation.

For those confused, yes I got the offer and yes I am facing this decision. I thought us law school kids were supposed to be able to be all coy and indirect and stuff.  ;)

Theoretically, hypothetically speaking if the choice came down to Cornell University (no money) or Washington and Lee University with an Honors Scholarship worth $25,800/year (contingent 3.0 GPA) which would you choose?
Prestigious Top 14 with Ivey League Reputation at $40,580 vs. Top 25 strong regionally for $4,700 ($30,500-$25,800)?

I'd kill myself in lexington,va (or whatever the hell the name of that town is).  Theres a reason W+L has to let people apply for free  ;)

I don't think atmosphere can really play into it considering Ithaca and Lexington are very similar small towns.

Where do you want to work? If it's NYC, then Cornell for sure. If it's DC or the south, then W&L. Any place else you'd have to look at on a case by case basis.

Probably DC/mid-atlantic area. But I don't know for sure.

Law School Admissions / Filling out the FASFA early
« on: January 12, 2007, 12:17:13 AM »
Just a question for those of you who have filled out the FAFSA early. How? Although it says to fill it out ASAP after January 1st, there are a lot of questions about parents' tax information, which my my dad says can't be filled out until he gets his W2 forms in about a month. He has no clue how it could be filled out any earlier. Do you all who do so, just estimate that information or something? Just curious.

I got it today too, despite being already accepted! (luckily the fee was waived when applying online anyway).

Hebrew National. Their slogan is "We Answer to A Higher Authority". Can't beat that for prestige.
