Black Law Student Discussion Board / job- Position already filled
« on: July 17, 2008, 08:30:27 AM »
Hey everyone, I am a rising 2L and I called a small firm to inquire about employment for next summer and they told me that they had already filled their summer associate positions for next year. ???   I am considering sending them a cover letter and resume anyway. Is this a good idea?

2L job search / Recruiting season
« on: July 14, 2008, 03:25:03 PM »
Hey everyone, I called a small firm that I was interested in today to inquire about working there for my 2L summer and was told that they have already hired their summers for next year. I was under the impression that firms did not start recruiting until later in the summer/fall. Hmmmm.

2L job search / small to mid-size firms in Tampa area
« on: July 14, 2008, 08:26:09 AM »
Hey everyone, I got to school in NC and was possibly looking at the Tampa Bay market as my fiance lives there. I am not really interested in working in a large firm, does anyone know of the names of any small to mid-size firms in the area, or the best place to look for these firms?

Thanks guys! I will definitely sign up

Hi All! I am thinking about attending the SE Minority job fair in Atlanta in August. Has anyone gone to this fair and has it been helpful. I know there are a ton of employers there.

Ok, I am a first year law student and came across this article today. So ok, I know right now the economy is in the toilet, but I am wondering if they picked the worst of the worst situations to highlight in this article because it was kind of scary, although I knew some of it to be true. And if this is accurate, do any of the current 2L or 3L think the market will get any better

I have learned that at my school that if you aren't in the top 10 to 15 percent with your first semester grades, your opportunities for a paid summer job are slim to none.  Any thoughts?

Ok, what workbook? I just received a copy of the textbook. I have been reading it and noticed some sections where it tells you to complete the exercises in the workbook. Did they give out a workbook or did you have to buy that seperately?

Yep, just got my stuff in the mail yesterday.
Yeah, I am aware of the horrible attrition rate.  :o So I definitely gotta stay on my "A" Game.

Black Law Student Discussion Board / To those attending NCCU

Hey has anyone received any more information about enrollment (besides loan materials) from them? I called them last Monday and they said they were sending out additional materials, but still havent gotten anything yet.

I am just in awe that I still have not heard from FAMU. It's now three months. I was told by a friend that they mailed their denial letters some time ago. I guess I must be in a holding place. I faxed another letter of interest. The waiting is hard at times.

I think the acceptance letters must still be coming from FAMU. I just got mine in the mail today. Two weeks after I sent my deposit to NCCU. I don't know if that a good thing or a bad thing, cause my fiance lives in Orlando. But what's done is done I guess. :-\

you can change your mind

Yeah, but then I will lose my deposit I sent to NCCU and have to still send FAMU a $200 deposit. Plus I am a little shaky on FAMU's accreditation. They still dont' have a permanent dean in place and alot of the staff has either quit or gotten fired there(well according to their blog) But I'm gonna pray about it. But I think I probably made the right decision.
