Since we've switched to talking about what to put in a resume ...
I took a "Business French" class during the semester I was in France. It was taught in french by a frechwoman so I'm going to take her word on it. We had a session where we had to make "frech resumes" for ourselves.
We were to list name, address, phone, email, DOB, marital status, number of children. During an interview we were told to be prepared to answer who the primary care giver for the children is and where they go during the day if you're at work and if you're planning on having any MORE children. There was a spot on the resume itself where we were told to affix a current picture.
And we were told that if a cover letter is mailed (and not emailed) it should be handwritten! She said in the past large companies liked to send them off to have the handwriting analyzed. Not so common today, but the handwritten cover letters still happen.
No one asked me, but it all blew my mind so I thought I'd share.
One of the most intersting classes I've taken in UG is an "intercultural issues" class where we spent some time talking about business issues that arise when doing international work because of things just like this. It was cool!
