Choosing the Right Law School / UVA - Status Update
« on: March 01, 2006, 10:16:58 AM »
UVa emailed me and told me that a decision had been made and that they were mailing it out to me. Silly question: Do they do this for all applicants? Just those they are rejecting? Accepting? Waitlisting? Making fun of? Also, how long did it take to receive the letter for those of you have gotten it?

Choosing the Right Law School / Maryland Full-Time or GW Part-Time
« on: February 26, 2006, 02:10:46 PM »
Which would be better for federal gov't law/big law in DC?

Is GW part-time good? Would I be viewed by employers as sub-par to full-time GW students?

I'd like to ask those of you who have been accepted to schools that you know you're not attending to please withdraw so the rest of us can have our best shot. Please.

Thank you.

Studying for the LSAT / Testmasters
« on: February 25, 2006, 02:11:35 PM »
I was wondering what everyone's views are on Testmasters. I know now that there are two, Testmasters and Testmasters180. I used plain old testmasters. It was the biggest bull I've ever seen. My score actually went down considerably and I felt like I was wasting my time. We didn't really learn anything, just practiced, and it was a complete and utter waste of my time and money. In the last 2 weeks, I abandoned their strategy and brought my score back up a little bit. All in all, I am very disappointed in my experience with them. Anyone have a similar experience? Or the opposite? I took the course in Arlington if anyone was in there too.

Law School Admissions / How many years of WE matter?
« on: February 24, 2006, 10:25:26 PM »
I've heard that if you take a year off, it's better to take 2 off because schools view one year off as the same as coming straight from ungrad whereas 2 yrs is considered in a different category. In other words, it's grouped into 2+ yrs of work experience and those with 0-1 yrs. Is this true?

Choosing the Right Law School / American University
« on: February 23, 2006, 11:32:15 AM »
I was just accepted to American University, which I guess you can consider my safety school. It's the only school I've heard from so far and, to be honest, I've always considered it only in comparison to GW and Georgetown and even Maryland and I haven't evaluated it based on its own benefits. Does anyone have any good arguments for choosing American University?

Law School Admissions / Letters to Deans?
« on: February 22, 2006, 02:09:47 PM »
I've heard from friends that if you write letters to the deans of admissions at the schools you've applied to that it can make a difference. Is this accurate? If I write a letter to the dean of school x reiterating my undying interest in attending school x, would that help? Or would it be seen as unnecessary and, i dont know, stupid? If this is a good idea, what should I write?

Thanks so much,

Choosing the Right Law School / Application on Hold?

I recently received a letter from a law school stating that my application is on hold. How does this differ from the waitlist?
