Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Orlando Market
« on: November 25, 2008, 06:43:37 PM »
Florida, then Stetson, if you want to practice in Orlando. If you already have ties to Central Florida, then Miami isn't a terrible choice, but you have better proximity to the area being at Stetson. UF, however, is, hands-down your best bet. Tons of Levin grads in Orlando.

Why not just call them and ask them?

Yes, you may apply to transfer as a 2L. However, the law school will only accept a max of 30 credits when you transfer.

One of my friends transferred home after 2L for family reasons. As a result, he will have been in law school for 4 years. We call him a 4L.

(He tried to visit, but his original school made things very difficult and the family situation was urgent).

You really can't say you're not doing well until you have a full year under your belt. Just work hard and do your best come exam time.

However, while I realize you have someone picking up the tab for law school, I must question why you are putting yourself through the hell of law school when you have no interest in a legal career. A law degree isn't the all-purpose degree people make it out to be. Maybe you should consider another career track and either start working or pursue another academic program.

Transferring / Re: Transfer advice please?

If you want to practice in or around LA, Southwestern is your best bet for proximity and status. Chapman is not going to have the reach out of Orange County and McGeorge's principal market is in the north. Southwestern grads have done well in LA. Agreeing with the above-post that you shouldn't set your heart on transferring b/c it may not happen. That being said, make it your goal to work as hard as possible in the hopes you will be able to transfer. If nothing else, it will help motivate you. That tactic worked for me during 1L.

Transferring / Re: Lateral Transferring within T30-40

If it is lateral, at least top 30%.... pointless speculation on my part... I think if you join the transferapps group on Yahoo! you may get some pointers.

If transferring isn't an option, you might want to consider visiting next fall, provided you are allowed to participate in the visiting school's OCI.

I almost think my transfer school had too much by way of orientation. I have had the opposite experience. I love my new school, and am really enjoying it. The people have been fantastic! And my friends from 1L are still my friends (a handful of them transferred, anyway!) and we still talk all the time. I'm really glad I transferred.

Job Search / Re: Summer job and your pet?

I'm going to DC, too, and I had considered the dog walking service... I'm just hoping to save money this summer so I can potentially start working on a down payment for a house once I graduate. Did I say house? I meant, shoebox-sized condo...

I was in DC last summer, but stayed with relatives in MD... the commute was horrible and I felt so guilty that I barely got to spend any time with the dog. (I know, once I start working I will be with the dog even less. But at least by then I can control living in closer proximity!)

At any rate, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one making a summer move with a pet. I just hate the idea of being without her for 12 weeks!

On that note... she's stealing socks from the laundry pile.... time for me to go fetch! (I am starting to wonder who owns who!)

Job Search / Summer job and your pet?

I'll be moving to another city for the summer. I have a dog, and I was wondering if anyone else has brought their pet with them to the big city for the summer? I'd rather not leave her with friends/relatives, but I also think that not having to care for her over the summer will free me up more to participate in summer activities with the firm.

Any thoughts?

Tag. I feel like I should be working so much harder.
