Law School Admissions / Are y'all still getting acceptances?
« on: February 16, 2006, 09:35:11 AM »
just wondering.

i know a lot of people have been waiting forever, and it seems like the accepts/rejects have been slowing down considerably... i guess i'm just trying to figure out whether it's time to panic, or if we all still have a few weeks good-news potential left.

it's going to be a sad day when my mailbox is filled with like 15 reject letters  :'(

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / USD pros/cons
« on: February 10, 2006, 01:13:15 PM »
USD is rapidly forcing it's way to the top of my list, though i have some concerns about how the degree will carry when i'm done.

my partner got into a grad program at ucsd, and of course grad programs can be tough to get into, so we're not sure what her other options will be (if there are any).  but if ucsd is it, then most likely so is USD.

from the little bit of research i've done, i see a lot that i like, and of course some stuff that worries me.  most noteably, the job market for new lawyers in san diego seems questionable (though still probably the best bet for usd grads, and there's not much in way of competing law schools in the area), and the fact that USD might be a tricky name to bring back east.

if i go this option, i'll be living/working in san diego for 2+ years after graduating.  and then i guess we'd be moving to where ever my partner can get a job....

ooph.  all so tricky.  i'm not anti- usd... just concerned about the practicality.  although, i'm not sure where else would be any better in this respect since i'm certainly not a candidate for the HYS variety of "truly national" schools.............

thoughts/comments... usd pros/cons... anything that might be helpful is welcome

Law School Admissions / Any word from William and Mary?

their whole "we're not a rolling admission school" line is super ambiguous.... i know people are getting in pre-deadline, but not many, from what i can tell........ anyone know what their deal is?  ???

Incoming 1Ls / Chiashu in Retrospect
« on: February 06, 2006, 07:35:25 AM »
just wondering how everyone else has been fairing with actual admissions vs. chiashu's (or other calculators') predictions...?

i applied fairly late compared to many of you and am still waiting to hear back from most of my schools, but i've already been offered relatively nice scholarships from schools that i supposedly only had a .35 chance of getting into in the first place.  which i guess was better than .1, but i don't think my numbers would have made me an auto-admit...

so i'm wondering what other peoples' experiences have been with the accuracy of these calculators

(ahem, not that i'm obsessing over my chances at the rest of the schools i applied to with similar "predictions," or anything...... ;))

Law School Admissions / Any couples applying?
« on: January 31, 2006, 06:33:24 AM »
Wondering if there's anyone else applying for law school at the same time as a significant other?

I've seen a few people trying to end up in specific cities... but is there anyone else with apps out that they're just hoping will match up with someone else's?

Interested to hear others' experiences with this, strategies as we enter the world of holds and waitlists, etc........

Incoming 1Ls / quitting job for law school?
« on: January 30, 2006, 08:41:40 AM »
anyone worried about telling their employer?

have only been at my job for about 4 months (long story.) and they basically created the position for me and let me talk the salary up about 25% higher than what they were going to give me..... have not mentioned law school to them yet.  not sure when to tell them or how or if i should even care, but i don't want to eff up references either......  :P

anyone in a similar situation?
