i dont understand why there are four sections (A-D) of CivPro and only three (1-3) of the rest? weird?

bluewarrior- i think offmason's point is that while Arab and Jew are both Semites, modern culture has designated the word "anti-Semitic" to refer to hatred of Jews. I think this traces back to the Nazis, who designated the jews for the first time as a separate semitic race, as opposed to their Aryan one. Nazis had blatant contempt for nonwhites, and they had to rope Jews into the nonwhite category and thus targeted Jews first because they physically looked like everyone else. They were designated as Semites to remind everyone that they were like the inferior Arabs, who would later come under Aryan rule/annihilation as well.
anyway i think thats the history but i could be wrong. i dont think anyone- educated or not- would call an rightist Jewish settler an "anti-Semite" for disliking Arabs. at the same time, to deny that Jews and Arabs share a Semitic heritage is also pretty silly.

In case anyone cares, a friend of mine who was set to begin Columbia in August was called off the HLS waitlist- and will be attending.
Likewise, just this past week, a friend heading to NYU Law got called off the Harvard waitlist and will be attending.
im DYING to know why theyre having such a bad year, taking so many off the waitlist and all. But in any event, HLS hopefuls, its not over yet

They dont just give out the Stafford stuff like candy, the school has to agree they want you to have it. So Penn will send a letter letting you know youre cleared and then AES will send a packet re: the MPN.
If you dont get it in the next week or so, start calling. I always find them so helpful over there at Admissions.
also trying to figure out citiassist v plusloan. i cant imagine the interest rate ever shooting that high, so the fixed rate of the PLUSloan doesnt seem all that attractive. Plus theres an origination fee...right?

From my friends currently in law school: Columbia and Georgetown are unprecedented in their cut-throat environments. Killer atmosphere, especially for those on Big Law track.
Im surprised Cornell is making these lists- ive never heard that before, but who knows.
Im more interested in those known for NOT being remarkably cutthroat.

I got a small envelope from CLS. I immediately said "what DICKS, i withdrew from their bs waitlist and they still are going to reject me?!"
BUt it was actually a nice note thanking me for updating them on my withrawal plans and wishing me all the best. Very nice. GO Columbia.

Nope. Anyone have any news? Does anyone know what their cycle is like in terms of last year? It seems that they started to accept people from the list much later this year. Not sure if this is good or bad...
No, they most defnitely did not. The first ones taken off the waitlist were on May 22. I was fortunate enough to be one of em. They since have taken a few here and there but when I asked someone in admissions the other day about how busy it is she said "the busy season is over, were gearing up for the fall now." Read into that what you wish.

In all seriousness: if the West Coast factor suits you- ie location isnt an issue- I think you should seriously consider S over H. I know I would, and i know a few unhappy 2Ls at H that would agree. Both are excellent schools so its more subjective than anything tho.
I also think its interesting how insane waitlists are this year- every single school is visiting their waitlists to degrees they simply havent in the past. H has taken in INSANE amount, and S and Y which usually dont take much at all, are pulling too. This is tricking down to Penn (thank GOD) and Mich, and a friend just got a call from a school where he wasnt even on the priority list...
but thats besides the point.
anyway id go to S. congrats either way.

My place becomes available on Aug 1, but I am leaving my job Aug 18, so I will start moving stuff in the following week, will fully arrive for the first day of orientation. Excited much?
The house I am living in is awesome- VERY nice, furnished and cheap. Subletting from professors your cousin knows cuz hes a phd student there? Awesome. Its basically on 42nd and Locust, really close to North edge of campus, still a good 15 min walk from the law quad but doable.
Im getting anxious to know our schedules and professors- i know we dont find out until we get there but Im already researching the faculty who teach the 1L classes and mentally hoping for one or the other....
