Yuck. Got the letter today. Sucks that we have to wait until June for a definitive answer. Don't most other schools want a deposit before then?

Anyway, best of luck to everyone else. Look forward to hanging out with y'all  :)

When I first saw the title (Toby's Rants: The Competition is Over) I thought for a split second that it was a dig at Yale.  :P

Anyway, yalecollege06, I don't think it's bad news. If anything, you just provided Toby Stock another opportunity to talk up HLS.

Good job, yalecollege06. Glad you got to talk to Mr. Stock pretty promptly and hope you hear some good news soon!

He asked me about my current job, asked me if I wanted to continue do public interest stuff in law (I have a lot on my resume), and we talked about Chicago for a little bit. It was pretty short (~8 minutes). I don't think anything we discussed would affect my application one way or another, so it makes me wonder what the point of the phone call really was. Maybe it's just to make sure you're not a jerk or psycho, like other posters on LSD have suggested  ???

Hehehe... kind of neat to see yourself being cited.

Nope I definitely haven't saved the world. I have a couple of soft factors I didn't put up on my LSN profile that could be relevant/advantageous to my application, but nothing that I thought would give me even a reasonable shot at Harvard given my numbers.

I'm still not sure why I got the phone call, but I'll take it. Hopefully more good news from Harvard will be coming soon.

Well he actually tried to call me that Tuesday but I missed it. He called me again on Thursday and that's when I was able to talk to him. I think there might have been a couple of other people who got the e-mail the same day I did and didn't get the call for a while, too.

Who knows though... maybe last week was really busy for him for some reason and maybe this week he'll be able to call within a day or two. Otherwise, it sucks to be on edge and compulsively checking your phone every twenty minutes for five straight days  :P

Thanks ceb!

Yeah apparently Toby works on Saturday AND Sunday?!

But aren't you happy he does? :-)

Anyway, congrats and good luck. It shouldn't be a biggie. The worst part is the wait. I got the e-mail last Saturday and I didn't get to talk him until this past Thursday!

In my experience, there is most definitely grade inflation especially in the social sciences. Anyone care to contradict me? I think the sciences and engineering aren't that grade inflated becuase of set curves.

Stanford's reputation for grade inflation made me nervous at the beginning of this cycle, but the pre-law advisor said that it's a non-issue. I'm inclined to believe her but who really knows...

Harsh. I guess you can't rely too much on the LSAT.

Dumb Bio? Never heard that one. Was planning on doing HumBio before I got lured away by Anthro. Good thing because I sucked at the HumBio core and would have undoubtedly had a much lower GPA in the end and screwed myself over for law school.

P.S. Diamond Life... I think I might know you. Class of 04? If I do, good luck with the cycle. If not, well good luck anyway :-)
