Current Law Students / One Month To Study for the Bar Exam
« on: June 21, 2011, 08:23:47 AM »
Due to work obligations, I've managed to put myself in a position of only having a little over a month to study for the bar exam.  I have all of Barbri's 2010 materials.  Any tips on how to use these materials most effectively?

Just thought I would update you guys.  Talking about the situation seems to help me cope with the stress.

First, the bad news.  I've basically exhausted all of my options.  I was just denied a personal loan from the bank and I've received no call-backs from the places I applied for work.  I don't have a post-grad job that I can ask for help.  I can no longer afford the bus fare to get to the Barbri course, so I've switched to the online-only course.

The good news is that I can probably talk my way out of the remainder of my apartment lease.  A friend of mine is going to let me sleep on his bedroom floor (I can't use his couch since his three roommates aren't cool with someone staying in the living room rent-free).  I might be able to get my parents to give me $50 or so a month for food, but I feel pretty guilty asking for it since I know they don't have much themselves.  I've already managed to pay for the Barbri course and bar exam fees, so I can probably get by on very little.

I'm just going to have to suck it up and tough this thing out.  Thanks for your suggestions, everyone.

I ordered a free credit report and I have a score 720, so the problem is not my credit history.  I asked Sallie Mae what the problem is and they basically told me that I have too much student debt.  They are unwilling to give me a few more grand to survive off of while I study for the bar and then search for work.  I'm really not sure what to do at this point and the stress has been definitely interfering with my bar exam studies.

Current Law Students / Denied for the Bar Study Loan...

I've applied for the bar study loan 3 times now with two different cosigners and been denied every time.  I'm taking the state bar exam at the end of July and currently enrolled in Barbri.  The past three years of law school have been paid through scholarships and federal loans but now I don't even know how I'm going to pay this month's rent or even pay for food.  My school's FA office has been less than helpful.  My family is poor so they aren't able to help me.  I've started looking for a job at the usual places (McDonald's, Walmart, etc.) for some extra income.

Has anybody here faced a similar situation?  I'm just searching for some advice I guess.  :-\
