Law School Admissions / Re: Business attire - suit or jacket and tie?
« on: February 21, 2006, 12:29:09 PM »
you can't go wrong with a plain grey or navy suit with tie. jacket, tie, and chinos may work too, depending on your personal style.

also, its winter, and if you plan on wearing a topcoat and scarf, the suit is the better option. nothing looks more awkward than a brown tweed blazer sticking out of a sleek, black topcoat.

Incoming 1Ls / Re: anyone going to CUNY?

Thanks.

Well unfortunately I've read alot of negative rants and raves on this and similar forums, however I know to take the writings with a grain of salt. What is your (and your fellow students') experience with offices such as financial aid, career services, student services? Is the staff helpful? How is the technology of the school (wireless campus, etc.).

I'm coming to Queens in March to sit in on a class, tour the school, and meet with financial aid. Anything that I should take a look at that the school might not steer me toward on a tour?

The public interest curriculum of the school is what really attracts me, so if you have any input on that, it would be helpful.

Thanks again!!

Incoming 1Ls / anyone going to CUNY?
« on: February 08, 2006, 01:22:16 PM »
I was accepted to CUNY. I'm still waiting back on a couple of schools, but CUNY is currently top of my list. Any thoughts, rumors, comments?

unless you've already been accepted, medical tests do not seem like they should be a top-priority concern.

if you've been accepted and really want to go to school, a needle or a cup should not be a barrier for attending. if it is, you may want to closely examine your desire (or possible lack thereof) to pursue a legal career. i'd take a needle, cup (and probably other things that i don't care to disclose) to get into my top choice.

if you are concerned that they will discover something about your medical history, i do not believe that could be any grounds for dismissal- if it is you have a nice suit on your hand. unless you have ebola or radioactive blood, you should be fine.

also, i do not believe they have the legal right to test for drugs. if they do, they probably understand that many applicants come from undergraduate institutions where pot is common and harmless.

but put down the pipe when classes start.

a little off topic, but how are you notified of scholarships? i got 2 acceptances in the past week- these schools did not have specific scholarships too apply for, and i was not told that i would given any. i assumed that i would either find out once my financial aid application is recieved, or that i would have to negotiate. help?

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Bleeding Heart Liberals Unite
« on: December 23, 2005, 01:03:55 PM »
Well, since many bleeding hearts like myself spent more time in undergrad with a bong instead of a book, I'm going to a Tier 3/4 school. I've been out of college for 4 years and have some great experience under my belt; I am not concerned with the tier. I want to go to a school that has a good public interest program (not to say that I'd turn down an Ivy League!)
