Question about banking that is not necessarily directed to only CUNY students, but I would like y'all's input.

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Banks in New York City
« on: May 11, 2006, 04:18:50 PM »
I'm moving to NYC (Queens) on June 1. Any one who is/will be a law student in the city have any banking suggestions? I'm debating Bank of America with Chase. ???

Butch- if you don't mind me asking, what is the status of gay marriage legality in New York?

Miss P- I wouldn't get discouraged. I'd say that the fact that they are still considering your application is a reason to be optimistic in itself.

At any rate, I do agree with your concern about the administrative disorganization. I have a friend in a Master's program at Hunter (also a CUNY) and he complains about the fin aid office, etc. He does not, however, complain about the quality of the education. Since we all want to become lawyers of some sort, navigating through a bureaucratic office should be something that we will want to get used to.

Butch- Good for you on the financial front. You're making me want to get married!

Have you started applying for the private loans? That's next on my summer "to-do" list. Also, I need to get health insurance. I have a couple of minor on-going health issues that I need keep an eye on, and I won't be able to afford to pay out-of-pocket.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Cities: Chicago vs. NYC
« on: May 09, 2006, 11:43:10 AM »
Chose a city based on the school you will attend and the job market after graduation- not on its culinary expertise. As a law student it doesn't matter which city has more chefs- you won't be able to afford a nice meal in Wichita.

If you want to live in NYC and are concerned about the price, move to Brooklyn or Queens. Also, cheap food and entertainment is abundant in NYC, even in Manhattan.

I got my award letter, as well as some information on the "Third World Orientation" last week. I'm changing addresses in a week, and I hope I don't have the same mail problems that you are having!

Say, we should try to plan some sort of LSD CUNY gathering (all 3 or 4 of us!) during June or July. Hopefully if we create some posts, people will respond.

I finally secured an apartment in Queens- LIC to be exact (36th ave at 29th st). Very excited and relieved. I got to explore LIC and Astoria this weekend, and I like what I see. I'm moving down on June 1st.  :D
