Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / UVA Waitlist 2010
« on: February 11, 2010, 08:49:16 PM »
Wanted to start a new thread for UVA Waitlist in current year.

It appears that previously UVA had priority waitlist and general waitlist for both in-state and out-of-state students. I was recently placed on a waitlist (without specifying which kind it is). I am in-state for Virginia. 162/3.94, non-traditional student, great work experience.  The word is apparently that in-state UVA list is pretty unpromising.
Anybody had any comments or experiences?

Choosing the Right Law School / T1 non T20 Law Schools - Worth it?
« on: February 04, 2010, 07:32:38 PM »
I have heard a whole lotta crap about Tier Three Toilet and crappy T2 schools with no job prospects unless you are top 5% of class.  It seems like most people are advising against going to law school unless it is T14.  At the same time I hear some people who went to T14 regretting it as now many of them now end up with 150K in debt and the previously guaranteed biglaw job just out of reach.

I have been accepted in a law school rated in high 20s with a decent scholarship, with some part time jobs hope to graduate <5K in debt.  I LOVE law, and hope to get the top pay job upon graduation.  If I dont , I will be fine also though, as I am an accountant with several years expereince (hopefully, Doctorate on my resume will not screw me over with accounting jobs, lol).  I am trying to decide whether it is worth it to got to T1, T30 school in my situation. T1 seems ok, but I heard NYC people call Cardozo LS, which is T1 (#49) CAR-BOZO, since so many people from there become contract attorneys.  Any ideas people?

Minority and Non-Traditional Law Students / JD/CPA Combo
« on: January 31, 2010, 07:47:44 PM »
I am a CPA who has always been interested in law, planning to go to law school in Fall 2010.  I heard JD/CPA is a hot combo, anybody had any comments, insights, experiences?

Got accepted into University of Richmond and College of William and Mary. UofR is 3 miles from my house, W&M is 60.  Planning to do everyday commute.  UofR is now processing my application for a near full ride scholarship and W&M gave me 6K a year no questions asked.  Without full ride I am certainly enrolling at W&M, but what do people think about if the scholarship for UofR works out?  I know all about the rankings (77 vs 28) and what per cent of the class you would need to be to get a good job (10 vs 30), but am looking for any other considerations/insights.

Law School Admissions / Long pending status in UVA
« on: January 27, 2010, 12:39:03 PM »
I applied to UVA a while ago and had the complete application pending for about five weeks.  Non-URM 162/3.94, CPA, interesting SALT and Big 4 experience. I am a state resident (or it probably would not be pending right now). I heard however that state resident decisions at UVA are made very quickly.

Does anyone know if that is a good or a bad sign?

Choosing the Right Law School / Big Law Job after T2 Law School
« on: January 27, 2010, 11:37:15 AM »
If you go to T2 law school like University of Richmond, and then miraculously manage to get a job at top law firm, like Hunton & Williams(which interviews on campus), would 3-5 years of experience in the law firm help mitigate the ranking of the law school you went to?
