Choosing the Right Law School / CU vs DU
« on: February 03, 2010, 09:40:12 PM »
Hey everyone,

DU has a PT program, which would allow me to work, but CU is ranked higher, but I would not be able to work with the exception of summers. Where should I go?? I will probably stay in CO, so the region is not an issue. I am just worried if I pick a better school, in this economy, it won't matter.

At the end of the day, your resume will say Suffolk on it whether you take the day or the evening program. I don't think it matters at all what time your classes are at, in terms of looking better. Suffolk is Suffolk, even at night.

Agreed. I just graduated from Denver part-time, and we were ranked #9 for part-time programs. It means nothing, and I did not put it on my resume or anything. Denver like Suffolk is a regional school, the same firms and lawyers that have hired from there in the past will continue to do so in the future. Firms that have never hired a grad from there wonít start hiring from there because of the schools US News ranking.

If you want to go PT, then go and take advantage of the opportunities that it offers, or go FT and do it the standard way, but donít worry about US news ranking, it wonít really matter at all, and not near as much as doing the things that you should be doing to land a job anyway (like networking or doing legal work during the day if you go PT at night).

What was your experience of the PT program? I have been admitted to DU PT and CU, but I would prefer working to minimize my debt. Did you work full-time? What was your schedule typically like?

My experience with Thomas Jefferson has not been pleasant.  I applied in October and never received any notification that my application had been received, let alone complete.  I emailed the school a couple weeks ago asking for an update on if they've even received my application.  I got no response.  I finally called and the woman informed me they do not let applicants know if they have your application.  The lack of communication from a school like TJ was discouraging, and they have definitely been deleted from my list (i applied due to location).

This is purely my experience, just thought i'd throw in my .02

This is good to know. You are not the only who has not recieved any notification from the school. I have been accepted into all other schools I have applied to, and they all have at least notified me when my application was complete.. Not really considering it anymore since it was a safety anyways.
