Non-Traditional Students / Re: Stay at home mom
« on: August 03, 2006, 02:20:33 PM »
Hey, I was/am a stay at home mom, too.  I got pregnant with my daughter soon after I got my Bachelor's degree (and my son a year after she was born), and had been at home for 5 years when I was applying to law schools.

Honestly I don't think any of the schools cared.  My GPA was okay and my LSAT score was good, and I got into all of the places I expected to get into.  And I start law school in a couple of weeks.  :)

Acceptances / Cardozo scholarship call
« on: May 04, 2006, 02:25:44 PM »
So I've pretty much decided to go to Oklahoma.  Then Cardozo calls this morning and basically asks how much money it will take to change my mind.  I tell her I will look at some numbers and get back to her in a couple of days, and she says she's forwarding my file to the scholarship committee.

So what happened?  They get too many withdrawals?  Is it unusual to get offered money for the first time in May?  I was accepted back in December.  I think it'd take way more money than they'll offer to keep my debt reasonable (with the COL in New York and me having two kids), but I guess it's worth figuring out and calling back.

I feel kind of like the guy I have a crush on called to ask me to the Prom last-minute.  Yeah, I feel popular and all, but if they want me so bad, why didn't they offer money before?

Where should I go next fall? / Columbia and Cornell
« on: February 10, 2006, 09:37:16 AM »
Is it me, or is it *awfully* late in the game for really good schools to be asking me to apply?  Columbia sent me a fee waiver back around Thanksgiving, but sent me a reminder email last week.  Then yesterday I get a packet from Cornell with a fee waiver and a deadline waiver (handy, since their deadline was Feb 1st).  Is there even a point in applying now?  I'm 3.28/164, so the odds of me getting into either of them are astronomically low anyway .

strange -- I applied online and didn't notice anything like that

Weird.  I didn't even address why I want to go to OU in my personal statement.

Wait List / Re: Waitlisted at DePaul...A few Questions
« on: January 23, 2006, 10:46:52 AM »
Did you ever end up getting any info on this?  My sister was also waitlisted at DePaul, and really wants to attend.

Did you say you would or would not be interested in PT?

Law School Applications / Re: 500 word PS for george mason? really?

I was an English major.  Maybe that's why I'm good at short and sweet.  ;)

My PS is short.  Very short.  I think 240 words?  It's less than a page.  It got me into GM.  I considered trying to inflate it to fit their 500 word guideline, but the things I tried ended up sounding contrived, so I cut it back down and they seemed to like it.

I wonder if I'm the only person who is concerned about their PS being too *short*.

Everybody at OU is nice!  For undergrad, it was down to UIUC and OU, and campus visits ruled out UIUC -- the campus was ugly, and the people were downright rude.  I LOVED OU, and I have missed it ever since I left (just over 5 years ago now, man I'm old).

I didn't hear a word about scholarships, but I don't care.  I love OU!
