Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Northwestern or UPenn?
« on: June 08, 2006, 06:47:23 AM »
Any opinions one way or the other?  Some factors to consider:

1.  living expenses
2.  employment possibilities
3.  reputation of the school and students
4.  scholarship money or liklihood

A few posters here revealed that NU has some sections of group-graded legal writing (or some other mandatory class). Penn over NU unless you can save 60K+ by attending NU.

It would be breathtakingly funny if tomorrow Zarqawi started to produce Bin Laden like video tapes.

Any chance his family might be willing to pay me back? I'll put it on his mother's credit report.

The usual approach is to kidnap is mama and send a tape to the uncle. They'll pay up.

Way too much effort for 5 bucks. I do kidnap at $5000+

Managing Director Of Cristal Not Impressed With Rap PatronageBy Nolan Strong
Date: 6/6/2006 2:15 pm

In a special edition of The Economist Magazine, the managing director of Louis Roderer Cristal addressed the popularity of the brand amongst Hip-Hop artists.

In an article titled "Bubbles & Bling" in a special Summer 2006 issue, Frédéric Rouzaud, the managing director of Cristal, stated that the company observes its association with the rap world with "curiosity and serenity."

Despite importing over 50,000 cases of the champagne per year, Rouzaud was less than thrilled at rappers' fondness for the posh drink.

"What can we do?" Rouzaud told The Economist. "We can't forbid people from buying it. I'm sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business."

The article further labeled the constant Cristal patronage by rappers as "unwelcome attention."

The article contains pictures of Sean "Diddy" Combs, one of the drink's most popular enthusiasts and quotes Jay-Z's No. 1 hit "Hard Knock Life," which name-checked the brand.

According to AmericanBrandstand.com, the pricey champagne was the 8th most mentioned brand on Billboard's Top 100 chart in 2005 with 35 mentions, being promoted by the likes of Kanye West, Trina, Lloyd Banks, The Game, Mariah Carey, and others.

It's time to boycott!

Hey ya'll,

I've been a lurker for the past few months and I have to say the posters on these boards are great. Much better than the hate-fest on XOXO. :P

On to the to topic:

Is anyone else feeling some SERIOUS anxiety over this wait-list thing? First there was the pleasant surprise then the feigned indifference. But then a sinking fear set in.

Let me explain. I got into CLS in March. I was thrilled, beyond thrilled. It's a great school and I did not expect to get into anything close to that caliber. So I was happy. After a couple of months, tho, I grew uneasy. Out of 11 schools I had 4 rejections, 3 waitlists and 2 acceptances, including CLS. The other school was not at all on par with Columbia in terms of reputation, facilities, location etc. So there I was with 1 choice.

Which was okay. Only that I went to Columbia for undergrad and was MISERABLE there. Like cried myself to sleep for about a year-miserable. My health collapsed and my family went through major issues. As far as the social scene goes, because its in such a big city, it can be a very cliquey place. People break down along racial/ ethnic and socio-econmic barriers. I'm not so easily classified, so I had very few friends. It was pretty tough. By senior year it was a little better, but I was pretty much a loner.

So i got anxious...Law school is important. It's important to do well but also its an important time for development. In college, I went from a bubbly confident teenager, to a scared, lonely and bitter young woman. I took the year off and I'm starting to feel like my old self again. I want to enjoy my life, reach my potential and help other people. What's more, is the added pressure from my friends and family to 'finally' start dating and having a life. Yeah I want that too, but I don't think all of these thing are going to come together if I'm not in the right place.

"Oh my god" I thought "I'm trapped". Don't get me wrong CLS is a fantastic school, but nevertheless, I began to feel very anxious, but I resigned myself to make the best of it. Staying at home and commuting 4 hours a day to work for another year isn't a great alternative. I want a new begining. This means a lot to me and I don't want my baggage to get in the way.

SO i'm cool until the second week of May. Lo and behold I get waitlisted at two great schools. Again, I was shocked. But it was a mixed blessing. So it could be the new start I was hoping for. And accordingly I've identified my first choice and pursued that waitlist VERY enthusiastically. However as time goes on this exit, is looking more and more like a lure dangling in front of my face. Fate's a female dog, I know, but COME ON!

Maybe I'm being ungrateful but I'm really scared of repeating the past five years. Those were dark times and I'm not looking to revisit them.

All this coupled with the generall anxiety on waiting on waitlist is making my head hurt.
SO, does anyone know what desperate wl'ers do? Is anyone else feeling the burn?

-k

Can I wait for the afterschool special?

J/K, good luck :)
