I'm going to be visiting family in VA in January. They happen to live close to the UVa and I figured it might be a great opportunity to visit the school prior to the admitted students' days. Classes, however, are going to be out. I don't even know if any students will be there.
QUESTION: Does it make any sense to visit the school just to see the campus, environment, buildings/classrooms (sans students), and to speak to Admissions/Financial Aid officials? Will it hurt my Financial Aid package (looking a bit too eager to attend)?

If you're black and you're proud, and you busted your ass to get through college with strong enough grades, ECs, and LSATs to get your black ass into a T14, drop a line. We gotta stay strong lol!!!
I'm University of Virginia-bound. Yes, I'm hype.

For any of you who are going to UVA next fall or are currently at UVA, what is the dorming situation like? I know that law school and Darden students get priority at Copeley III, but when do you need to drop a deposit and apply for housing in order to get a room there. I am waiting for a couple of other schools to send decisions before I commit to UVA (my #1 choice anyway), but I do want to dorm, and I don't want to wait so long that I miss the opportunity to get a room.

I've noticed that a majority of the "Hispanic" law school applicants that I know are of Mexican descent. I think this is also the case here on LSD. I'm Puerto Rican/Cuban and wanted to know what y'all think about the inclusion of "Hispanic" as a box to check re: ethnicity. Should we scrap that box in favor of more specific boxes (South/Central American, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban), keep only that box, include race (white hispanic, black hispanic), or just scrap the box (and all others) together?
To what degree does the dominance of Mexican applicants over other Hispanic applicants affect URM-status? Certainly I would assume Puerto Rican and Cuban applicants are less represented in USS than Mexican applicants?
Just a thought.

LSAC says all of my report materials was sent to Harvard on 12/08. Still no word from them on the file being complete. Are they normally this slow (being busy as they are, I would assume yes), or should I begin to worry (not like I'll get in anyway lol)?

Okay, the obvious part -- Michigan is cold.
But how cold? And when?
I never really considered Michigan until a week or two ago. This is mostly because I'm from the South, live in NY, and HATE the cold.
But c'mon, I wouldn't let weather deter me from getting a top-notch education at UMich (if they let me in), would I?
Guess it all depends. How cold is it?

When I get my first decision from law school, I am getting WASTED. It will either be in a celebratory stupor (YAY! I got into blah law school!) or in a commiseratory depression (Nobody loves me!). I'm trying to figure out what I'll pick as my poison, since I expect that first decision in the next week or two.
Anybody have favorite drinks they're going to go to?
I'm thinking Jack Daniels for a rejection, Belvedere for an acceptance.

What are y'alls top three reasons for choosing the law schools that you desire most?
In order of importance, I considered:
1. Geographic Location -- I had to be on the East Coast. The further South, the better.
2. Prestige -- Given location, I'll probably sign with the best school that accepts me. Regardless of $.
3. Strength in program -- The better the cours offerings, faculty, and clinics in my presently preferred program will also sway me.
Runners up: Weather, Financial Aid package, Reputation for laid-back and fun community, Reputation for hot girls (sorry, being truthful lol).
And you all?

Because I got lucky and got this decent UG scholarship, I am guaranteed full-tuition for the entire 3 years at Northwestern Law (should I get in). Sounds great, right? The catch: I don't want to go to NU!
I don't want to be in Chicago; I don't have a business-focus. I have no work experience. I'd much rather go somewhere else. But hey, almost anywhere else and I'll have to pay tons of money (although I don't care that much).
What would y'all do, given a choice between a decent school you disliked for free and a comparable school you loved with a weak financial aid package?
Ah, the joys of the law school application process.

Conservative minority, very outspoken politically, but gracious enough to respect the educated opinions of others. What schools of the following are most accomodating?
University of Virginia
University of Michigan
University of Chicago
University of Pennsylvania
Thanks, y'all. I know Chicago has a "rep" for being conservative, but I don't know how accurate that is. How is Michigan? Georgetown? I heard Duke and Northwestern were notoriously liberal-leaning. Is this the case?
