I did this exact same thing, and got accepted - don't know if the letter helped, but it definatly didn't hurt.

I'll pm you mine so you can see how I started it.

Law School Admissions / Poor high school seniors!

So I just heard on the news that they just found an error in one of the administrations of the SAT - where they scanned with the wrong answer key and told thousands of students (and the colleges that they are applying to) the wrong scores - in many cases like 200 points lower than they actually scored.  Kind of makes you wonder about the LSAT.....

Hey, thanks Kristen!  Deffinitly planning on visiting! Probably next weekend.  I wasn't going to be able to visit... til I saw that they'd reimburse my plane ticket.  So I'll probably be visiting on March 18th.

They sent that really cool questionaire about what my interests are--- I thought that was awesome!

I might get some small amount of money at UVA or Duke; I have yet to receive any information from either school about scholarships or financial aid.

Maybe I'll get a good offer from Tulane--- I don't want to get my hopes up... so we'll see.  Tulane with money is deffinitly at the top of my list.

Cool, hopefully I'll see you there - I am going to visiting day on the 17th then sticking around for the weekend!

Hey congrats on your acceptance today!  How much money is it going to take from them to entice you away from Duke/UVa?  With your lsat and gpa alone you are sure to get some serious cash from them, not to mention your work experience/etc....  Are you planning on visiting?

On a side note, just got the travel voucher email today, it is really cool that Tulane is giving them to everyone, not just those getting scholarships...they really seem to be doing everything right this year!  I can't wait to head down there to check it out!

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Tulane or UF
« on: March 08, 2006, 09:31:23 AM »
You could call up admissions at UF and check on the status of your app - like, if it is complete, ready to be reviewed, is being reviewed, has been reviewed with no decision...That might tell you more of when they are going to get decisions out.  Or you could always put in the first part of the deposit at Tulane, and if you have to loose your $300, rationalize it by knowing that  you just saved $50,000 on tuition.....

Ummm, back to the original question - It sounds like you are not sure if law school is what you really want.  It I were you, I would take some time off, work, travel, and really figure out what you want, in grad school and career-wise.  Talk to some people who have the job you want - ask them how they got there, and what they would have done differently.  Also talk to some people just out of law school, and just out of the grad program - are they happy with their choice?  how are their career prospects looking?   would they do it over again?  Law school or grad school is a huge committment, and not one to make if you are not sure.  You only get to go once - you definitely don't want to start either program, decide to quit after a year, and then figure out in a few years you want to go back, only to have far fewer options...once you pick one, you have to be able to fully committ to it!

A year or two off might really solidify the idea of law school for you, or you might figure out that you want something else instead.  Oh, and about the rankings - yes, there are lawyers from every level of school that are sucessfull, and yes, there are some positions that require you to go to a top law school.  Again, look to the job you want, and see where their lawyers are from - if they are all Harvard/Yale educated, then you know that it might be a job that primarily hires grads of top schools, and if they are from all over, then go to the place you like the best, and try to be in the top of your class.

Best of luck!

Yeah, Tulane is *extreamly* stunning, one of the most beautifull schools that I have ever seen.  Anyway, I will be there for visiting day on the 17th, anyone else going that weekend?

Yea im going.  Where are you staying.  Im looking for a nice, cheap place.

One of my friends down there recommended the st. charles guesthouse, apparently it just reopened, and is the cheapest (clean) option in town, and I think fairly close to tulane.  I booked a rooom right near the french quarter, not too cheap, but I figure I will save money on cabs and stuff - it's on canal st, and on the streetcar line to get to the school.

Law School Admissions / Re: ACADEMIC PROBATION
« on: March 06, 2006, 05:39:37 PM »
I was on ac. prob for a semester, then took a while off and when back, and got much better grades.  Hasn't hurt my apps, have got into my targets that I have heard back from, and into my first choice (a fairly good reach at like 30% chiashu), so it seems like as long as you can show that there was a reason for the drop, and you are back on track with strong grades, it won't hurt you at all.
