Wait List / Re: Waitlisted at Loyola-LA

Right.  Everyone withdraw (except for me)  I need a room mate!

I think at least this year is locked up, but if you move to my neighborhood (an awesome one) then we can be neighbors!

It doesn't seem like this year is locked up yet...

Wait List / Re: USD waitlist
« on: June 23, 2006, 09:37:25 PM »
So I have a question. I was accepted at Miami and waitlisted at USD. I sent a deposit in at Miami, just in case but I'd much prefer USD. When I was put on the waitlist at USD I didn't send additional information, but I did send a letter declaring my continuing interest in the school. So here is my question, Miami sent out a mass letter to all students saying that the LSAC lets them know if their applicants have sent deposits to other schools. So I'm assuming that USD can see I've made a deposit at Miami. Should I send them another letter explaining that I've only put a deposit at Miami just in case they don't accept me, or amd I wasting time and sounding too desperate? Thanks for any insight.

You know I really think that's a scare tactic unless somehow the schools report their deposits to LSAC.  I'm assuming you paid Miami for their deposit, that did not go through LSAC, it went through Miami's office of admissions.

If I'm wrong and they DO report it (which I don't know why, the only person I can think of them reporting anything to is the ABA when they're done) then they will understand your backup situation.

Oh, how was the tour?

Does campus suck as much as my mother says?  (this is an honest question, I haven't been on campus yet).

The area IS as bad as they probably say it is (although not so much during the day since it's downtown), but it is more walled in than USC, it's almost like a compound-you come in through the parking lot where they have security, and anywhere you see a door leading to the street, there is a pretty well locked gate between it and the sidewalk.  It doesn't seem like there's many feasable ways to get in the building, although I didn't check for more entrances, it seems pretty damn well locked down.

The inside is quite small considering the size of the school, but it is a commuters school and therefore doesn't require as much place.  It doesn't seem like it's all that neat to hang out on, so that may be an issue for you, the library is nice but it doesn't seem like you'd want to spend all your time there.  However, the architecture, and the overall look of the inside was very nice, I have no issues with it at all, but I also don't care to "hang" out on campus which seems like the only thing that it's a bit limited for (although it does have places to go to like the student lounge/cafeteria).

Thanks for the info.  I got flat out rejected from Southwestern... I think whoever read my essay just didn't like animals or children or something...  this whole process is so subjective.

It really is very random, I heard of people with competitive numbers for UCLA/USC get rejected from random schools like Southwestern, and then get into Whittier but not Chapman, things that just make you go "HUH?"

You can see from my LSN that I got a pretty random acceptance from Loyola and stayed on Pepperdine and USD's WL.

Yep, I was rejected from Southwestern - and am waitlisted at UCLA.  ???

I really wonder about waitlists...from LSN it seems like some random large amount of people over-qualified and under-qualified get waitlisted, I thought Loyola waitlisted a TON of people and I thought I had no chance...especially compared to the numbers of the other people waitlisted.

Yes, it seems like almost acceptances they have made off the waitlist are purely based on numbers---A lot of asians, might i add

I think 2 other people today at the tour I went to got off the Waitlist, and they were not asian might I add. (they were white)

So what you are telling me is, the board is dead.

I can live with that.  There are other things to do here.  Like read.  And sit.

Oh and Pipskicks: Even if fate decides it wants the one poster who might be staying in LA (but desperately doesn't want to), to stay, that person won't be looking for a roommate.

There is another regular poster who is waiting to get off the LLS WL, but I don't think that other person will be looking for a roommate either.

OK well I thought it was worth a shot.

Thanks for the help!

Hey thought I'd throw this out here...

Just got into Loyola LA, and I was planning on moving up north but now I'm going to stay in LA.

Is there anyone on here going to any of the LA schools that are looking for roomates?

This board updates a mile a minute, so PM me if you are interested...

I decided not to stay on the Loyola waitlist... and to go to Pepperdine (unless miracle of miracles I get off the UCLA waitlist).  Just curious what made you decide to accept Loyola.  Was it primarily ranking?  8)

I didn't like Southwestern much, the next best school was Santa Clara for me.  Pepperdine and USD left me on the waitlist, and I heard much better things about Loyola than Pepperdine.

There are some aspects of Loyola I don't like as much as Pepperdine (location and small commuter school), but the reputation outweighs all of that for me.

A few of my LA friends also suggested Ktown, said it would be a decent location if I wanted to be close to the school.  Or maybe they just assumed that I'd want to feel right at home (i'm korean)  :P

Are the school's roomate/housing websites helpful at all?  I'm not able to log in yet since they haven't received my deposit.  Ideally I'd like to live with another LMU 1L pretty close to the school, you know... misery loves company

I'm in the same boat as you are, I will look at the online housing site as soon as they receive my money.
