Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Re: BAD EXPERIENCE WITH TEMPLE
« on: April 25, 2009, 08:01:39 PM »
I got an email from a law school (I don't remember which one). It said, "Dear Accepted Student," and included a bunch of information. I only applied to one LS, so it made no sense. I emailed them back and they basically said "oops! - wrong address." Seriously, I didn't even apply!

This is what I learned from my short time on this site:

Everyone has their opinion, and they mostly conflict. Do what works for you. There are so many books out there - look for some of the books that people suggested on amazon.com, read a few pages, and see if you're interested.

Personally, I'm following PLS to a T, and I don't really care what anyone thinks. I'm not going to suggest you do the same, because you're not me.

 :D

We'll see how long that lasts.

Law school is not THAT hard.  Trust me.  Most of it is knowing some basic law and applying it to a fact pattern, with a slight twist.

I'll let you know ;)

I have a question. I am an 0L as well and I am compiling a list of employers. On NALP Directory, do you send your resume and cover letter to the recruiting contact listed or whoever they put down as the contact? For judges I guess you send the items directly to chambers, right?

Is this kind of early?

It really won't help you.  I would read "Law School for Dummies" and "Law School Confidential" to give you a general idea of what to expect, but I did that and my law school does this totally differently from others--we basically teach all our courses backwards so it may not help you at all.

Don't study anything substantive.  Professors each emphasize different things and approach topics differently.

Also, don't embrace being a gunner.  No one likes gunners.  Gunners have no friends.  And having no friends is suicidal in law school, because you will want people to study with/share materials/take notes when you're sick.

It's possible to care about doing well without being hated by everybody.  ::)

Much agreed.  :)

Financial Aid / Re: Will they offer me $$$?
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:22:52 AM »
Trying to get my life back on track now and am hoping law school will help me do that.

I'm starting in the fall, so I can't speak from personal experience. That said, law school is emotionally, physically, and mentally draining. If you aren't prepared in all ways, don't go yet. Get yourself together and healthy FIRST, law school won't do that for you.

Financial Aid / Re: So confused...so stressed. blah. please help
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:20:07 AM »
I just don't know what to do! First of all, American's FAFSA deadline said March 1st and I didn't fill mine out until March 4th...no excuses, i'm just a fool. Does this mean I'm not going to get aid??? Also when the hell do I find out what aid I got??? Am I so far behind? I haven't even taken out any private loans either! i don't have any money in savings or anything...I literally need to be able to pay rent, food, and everything with loans. What do I do? How do I get them? Does FAFSA loan any of this out? I'm so confused.

How much is your law school tuition? The federal limit on stafford loans for grad school is $20,500 per year. Chances are you will not be able to pay for anything besides your tuition with that aid. You'll need to take out private loans, which are hard to get in this market, especially if your tuition is covered by govt loans.

I can't bring myself to read anything "for dummies."

I'm what they would probably call a gunner. I've read Planet Law School II by Atticus Falcon, and I'm following his "plan." Do what works for you, this is what I think will work for me.
