$60K

Tuition at UB is $15,700/year. I'm taking the max Stanford loans ($20,500/year) out to pay for book and daycare.

I got an email from a law school (I don't remember which one). It said, "Dear Accepted Student," and included a bunch of information. I only applied to one LS, so it made no sense. I emailed them back and they basically said "oops! - wrong address." Seriously, I didn't even apply!

Did they ID you through CRS? I got letters from UGA, Wake, Indiana, Minnesota, GMU, and UW-Seattle last summer saying I would likely get in...but not that I was accepted.

Phoenix School of Law is admitting people strictly on numbers, as is FAMU, was it one of them? They offered me full scholarships without me even doing any essays.

I don't remember which one, it was a few months ago. And I don't know what CRS is...

General Board / Re: Any Public International Lawyers?
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:20:00 PM »
I know the first year of law school is just broad courses that everyone must take, but the year afterwards I want to specialize in public international law. Does anyone know how the job market is for this specialty? This is really the only type of law I enjoy and have a passion for, and I hope I can make a decent living out of this. Thanks guys.

How do you know that it's the only type of law you enjoy?  I don't think it's a good idea to be closing doors off so early.

I'm not sure what public international law even means.  Are you talking about Human Rights and that kind of thing?

I completely agree with bl825. People keep asking me what I want to do when I'm done, and I just say that I have no clue. Maybe I'll fall in love with immigration law, who knows. Keep your mind open.

General Board / Lunch with an ADA
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:15:53 PM »
During my internship this year with DSS, I had to make a referral the the DA's office. My supervisor introduced me to the ADA who has an office in the county building - this was the day after I got my acceptance letter and my supervisor told her that I was going to law school. She said she graduated from the same school in 2003 and if I need anything to call her and gave me her card.

So...I emailed her...she asked me out to lunch this Thursday so that I can "pick her brain." We're meeting at Chili's - not too upscale - on her lunch hour. What should I wear? What should I ask her about? I'm so nervous. I have heard so much about law school in general, but I want to know about my law school, in particular. What would you talk to her about?

Don't mind Wally.  You're absolutely right that you've gotta do what works for you.  Blinders up.  Just make it happen however you need to.

This is the best advice for a 0L on this site.

Like hell I'll be interested.  Nobody cares about your grades but you, and even sometimes you don't care because you realize you prob won't have the grades to clerk and firms don't care about this *&^% once you're in the door.

Wow. Where did that come from? I sense a little bitterness.
