thanks for the quick reply, mojman.

i'm thinking about ordering my mbp in july or august - i shouldn't have any problems receiving it by the beginning of school (late august), right?

AZWildcat - i've been reading a lot about high pitch whining sound coming out of the new Macs.  have you had any problems with this?
here is a link of a bunhc of disgruntled macbook pro purchasers talking about their noise problems:

i hope by the time i buy mine the problem will be fixed.

also - did you buy yours at a store or throught the website? how long after your ordered (if your ordered it) did it take to arrive?

yeah - you have to send an official transcript and a dean's certification.

i read somewhere (maybe it was law school confidential) that you should get a couple of copies of your official transcript for yourself as you will need them during law school. i don't remember why you need your official transcripts, but the authors thought they were useful.

i'll be there.  since i applied ED, i don't have to make any deposit.

as for living - my fiance and i were seriously looking at a couple of apartments on 13th and mass, but i think we're going to end up living in adams morgan. if i wasn't engaged, i would happily live in the dorm - the convenience can't be beat.

if you are only going to be able to spend a total of 10hours on the ground, i would choose just one of the schools to visit.  gulc would be easy to get to by hopping on a MARC train that will take you into union station which is two blocks from gulc's campus.
i'm not familiar with charlottesville or how to get there. so i can't offer any suggestions on that front.
good luck.

I've read that the MacBook Pro has to run many of its applications through Rosetta since most applications haven't come out with new Intel-based Mac versions.  I've read that this includes MS Office.  Is anyone using the MBP now?  Have you noticed MS Word running any slower? What about your other applications? When do you think that a new MS Office for Macs will be introduced?

My fiance has a 15" PowerBook and it's pretty sweet.  She tried convincing me to just use hers, but I want one of my own.

ALso, Boot Camp will be available as part their next OS "Leopard" due out later this year.

I think I'll be buying a 15.4" MacBook Pro for law school.  They're just too d*mn sexy to resist.  It seems compatibility issues are no longer a viable excuse to stick with a PC.
My only conern is the size of the MBP - 5.5+ pounds and the dimensions are a little big.  And who knows when they will release a smaller versiou of this machine.  I've heard they're coming out with a smaller (12 or 13") Intel based iMac this summer - that might be a possiblity too.  I'll wait to buy a computer until this summer some time.

How much do you think it will be to upgrade to OS X Leopard when it comes out later this year?  And how long until the 12 inch MacBook Pro comes out?  Would it be worth waiting until both of those two items come out?

Also, does anyone have a clue as to whether (or when) Dell's latitude line will move over to the Core-Duo architecture?  Should that concern even affect one's decision on which computer to get?

And, is the Sony VAIO TX series tough enough to withstand three years of law school use?

sharsky - how much did you pay for your T43? also, did you get a three year extended warranty?
