I second botbot: it depends on how close you are.  If you're not close and you can get a higher GPA by dropping it, I say drop it.

If the latter, I'm not sure anyone could really give you any good answers.  The whole biglaw framework is getting shaken around a bit.  Hard to say what's going to happen in the next year or two until it actually happens.  :(

I think it's a good thing.  Get some sense of where you are, what areas you need to focus on, etc.  Worked for me, anyway.  :)

If this is, in fact, not advised, how could it compare to the part time option? in a way, taking a class or two might even seem more like a cop-out. At least if you were completely away from school it could be assumed that that the student was doing something as an alternative.

I know people who took time off during school and didn't do anything really amazing or anything.  It didn't impact them negatively, as far as I can tell.
