1) Some try to to appeal their grades (most unsuccessfully) and wait on a decision.  I mean I saw more people putting more work into trying to appeal to get back into school than they did during the first year.  Pitiful!!

2) 50 is a personal favorite, but nothing beats Kanye.  I mean, Kanye is the CLEAR winner if there was to be a comparison.

I could give a positive example for all those types of people.  I have a friend who highlighted his ass off last year and he also highlighted his ass smoove out the law school doors.  I have a friend who is the best outliner and did well and I know another who could sells her outlines and got the boot!  I believe in not re-inventing the wheel and using an outline that is already done and adding/deleting from it based on what my professor wants us to know.

Wait, whaddya mean they didn't make it back?

They got kicked out of school.  We had an unusually large "curve out" rate at school.  We lost about 18% of our class, roughly 40 students due to grades.  It's an administration thing, but yep, they got the boot!

Now I can't sit here and say I read all of my cases last year, BUT I will say that after clerking for a mid-size firm after my 1L year, YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO READ CASES.  Man, I wish I could scream that everyday.  There is no supplement to use in the workplace and you can't just use the "Brief it" feature when talking to a partner about a case.  But, for those who said they never read cases, they are a "never read a case" lie. lol

I remember that situation with Hov.  I was pissed at how elite and selective some people can be.  I mean, Jigga isn't exactly what I would call a "gangsta rapper".  I mean he is the freakin' head of Def Jam, but that just goes to show that sometimes no matter how much $$$ you got, you are still "just" black in the eyes of some.  >:(

I briefed my cases as I read them and I can issue spot and do all those things.  In law school, there is no general rule of thumb.  Especially as a 1L, you have to do what's best for you.  Not to diminish what cui bono is saying, but people work in different ways.  I know people who outlined and briefed like you suggested and they didn't make it back.

Yes, I figured I needed to make an appearance on the board again.  It kind of helps beat the humdrum of the 2L year, don't cha think.  And I've read some interesting comments lately so I felt the need to jump back in.
